I need virus/spyware help...
I can't keep them out. I run a virus scan every night and tonight I had 59 detected viruses. I have McCaffree firewall and I run SpyBot search and destroy.
A couple of weeks ago a virus took down my whole system and I had to recover from my boot disk, then reload everything.
I have a Cable Modem connection to the internet. I use Firefox as my browser.
Does anyone have any advice? I'll do anything at this point.

I use Nod32 as my anti virus. It has stopped many. I also have 3 ad ware and 2 spy ware programs and a fire wall. I would call a local geek place and ask what their recomendations may be. Though I am sure there are some tech people here could help you too.

When you run your virus/spyware be sure to follow the prompts- meaning be sure to put all the results into the quarantine folder. This takes those "suspicious" files into the folder and stops them from working. This is so you can see if your computer needs that file. If you are sure you do not need that file for another program then you can delete them completely. I know it's hard to explain, but it's a simple starting point. Otherwise, you might want to call the Best Buy Geek Squad.

Do a google search for AVG. It's a free download and works great

I also use AVG, it's free and works great. Now if I could find a popup blocker that was the same. Popups drive me crazy.

Change your browser to Firefox. It has a built-in popup blocker that works really great. And you can turn it on or off for each website.

Cherilyn, I use Norton Professional. There is no need to purchase multiple software for virus checkers, ad blockers, firewalls -- everything is included in one package.
