Just another Greenie!
Hi All Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. My name is Terri and I'm up in Shasta County.
Getting all my duckies in a row to get out there, but haven't even got my feet wet yet. But just got a request today. yippee! didn't even try. hehe
Being in biz isn't a new thing to me, just so you all know, so I'm not gung ho, shove every notary off the CA coast or anything. LOL! This is just to "fluff the retirement account" up a bit.
This whole notary thing is new to me though, so I'm totally GREEN and only know what I've read. Including Vicki's book, among others. LOL! (that's a test subject around here) The instructor I had was great with lots of experience, and invited us to contact him if we have questions, but conveniently, he's never available, go figure. Anyway, sounds simple enough to me, but I'm a nitpick for detail and professionalism, so gotta line up those ducks!
I would like to try my hand at a few loan signings, among some other "targets" as I call them,(Having friends helps! LOL!) So if I may, I am interested in preying on you guys for a bit for some Newbie moral support? Are you up for the challenge? If so, it would be awesome! Feel free to email me at [e-mail address]. (No site yet, just the splash and email)
I'm feeling a little "timid" about starting. Call it cold feet, but I can get past this.
Did anyone else feel a little "apprehensive" with their first few signings and notarizations? It's not like they give you a whole lot to view in a class to make you feel a little more confident here. It seems like doing a notarization or signing is a bit like the blind leading the blind on all those forms correct? I'm assuming probably.
But my best educated guess here is, look for the lines, have them sign, then sign off on an acknowledgement or jurat, or whatever format they have attached (with the proper wording, I know). Seems pretty cut and dry. Is there just WAY more this greenie needs to pay attention for? What are some of the pitfalls and "watch outs".
Outside of some prep work obviously, on a loan package, does it really need to take 3 hours? (I have heard some talk that some take that long).
Is there a place to go online to maybe see some general "forms" that a notary might run across? For instance like the ones that people may bring me to sign off for them?
What is the most common thing people have notaries acknowledge or do a jurat for?
Would this be a jurat?
A lady I know asked me about my services today. She needs a form notarized that will change her home/property from her husbands name to hers. (they are recently divorced, but still living on the property together apparently but he's moving, and they want to do a name change) I asked if it was a quit claim, but she said no, it was another form she picked up at Office Max. One of those DIY things requiring hers and his sigs, and two witnesses. So, does anyone see red flags here? Should I be aware of anything to look for, ask? (asking that question, "are you sir aware of what you are signing" is coming to mind)
Another friend, he owns a construction company, said he might need some things done. Anyone work construction?
I'm probably worrying about the "unknown" too much huh?
Well thanks for anyone who will show some mercy on this Greenie!

Hi Terri,
I am also new to this line of work, I am Kern County. I met a gentelman that owns a roofing company a couple of weeks ago and he also said he will need a notary at times, I am curious to see what type of documents would be notorized I guess I need to do some more research on this subject. Let me know what you come up with and I will keep you posted as to what I come up with.
Thanks and good luck, Cathy
