Know of any states granting elderly IDs with no expire date?
I have heard that a few states are starting to issue non-expiring state ID cards to elderly people who no longer drive. This is so these people will have ID forever. Great idea.
Does anyone know which states offer this?
I'm doing some research for a speech.
Thanks for your help! LauraV

All ID's issued at the Massachusetts RMV have no expiration date, while driver's licenses are only good for fives years.
Having ID's without an expiration date is a complete pain in the derrière. I come across too many people who have had their ID's for longer than ten years and look nothing like the photo.
In those instances, I refuse to notarize any docs for them until they obtain a new ID from the RMV with an updated picture.

Re: Florida - NM
This is for Sylvia in Florida or other knowledgeable person in Florida . I had a signing in California for a California couple. He had California Driver’s License, she had Florida Drivers’ License with a California address.( Mary Jane Brown , 225784 Kelly Road, Oxnard, CA 93001) I have never seen this before, as I expected anyone with any State ID, should be living in that State. She said it was since he was in the Navy and had lived in Florida. Are you familiar with Florida’s procedure if they are from out of state. TIA

I didn't know Minnesota did this until the other day I actually had one. So....apparently, Minnesota is one of those states. I still can't find anything on MN id's NOT having an ex. date.

A photo ID with no expiration date is just not for the elderly in Florida, it is for anyone in Florida. I did a signing last week and the spouse did not drive and she was young and had a Florida photo ID wiht no expiration date.

Re: Know of any states granting elderly IDs with no expire d
Just be aware that some FL State issued ID cards do expire. The following is an excerpt from the Florida Statutes:
§322.051(2)(a) Every identification card shall expire, unless canceled earlier, on the fourth birthday of the applicant following the date of original issue. However, if an individual is 60 years of age or older, and has an identification card issued under this section, the card shall not expire unless done so by cancellation by the department or by the death of the cardholder. Renewal of any identification card shall be made for a term which shall expire on the fourth birthday of the applicant following expiration of the identification card renewed, unless surrendered earlier. Any application for renewal received later than 90 days after expiration of the identification card shall be considered the same as an application for an original identification card.
I'm sure that the "young" person you are referring to had some other reason for having an ID card other than they "did not drive", as the statutes are pretty clear on the issuing of Driver's License and ID cards.
