Lost My 1st SS Signing... My Own Fault
So I'm really new... have only done a few signings and they've been through one of my best friends who is a local loan processor (very lucky as they paid decent and she basically walked me through my first two so I can't complain -- as I know most go it alone right off). Anyway, she doesn't have much biz for me and I really need to make some $$$, so I'm starting to market myself with SS's.
I FINALLY got my first call today for a singing in my area tomorrow. I missed the call but went online to research the SS and how I should handle the call back (so I don't sound like a doof). Well, I called back 30 min later and they already filled the slot. So I lost my first SS signing and it's all my own fault for being too nervous. Should have just called back and winged it, as I'm sure it would have been fine and you learn from experience right? Anyway, bummed... but I'll be ready for the next one. Still nervous, but hopefully okay.
Thanx to everyone on this site as there is truly TONS of valuable info out there that you guys have all collectively provided.
Wishing everyone lost of sucess (vets and newbies)!!!
p.s. After you accept a job with a SS, what in general are your next steps (just so I'm ready)...

Always, Always, Always...get a confirmation of how much you have agreed on getting. Don't short change yourself...make what you need to cover cost, and make it worth it, too. I like to say, "what is the fee that you are planning on paying for this signing?" That way, if they are high, you say "Great, that's perfect" if they are low, you say "Oh, my base fee is $ XX, can you match that?"
Keep track of who you talked to and make sure that you get the phone number, in case you don't get any confirmation, to call and check back.
Make sure to talk about how the docs will be delivered (ie: overnight, email, to borrowers).
After the confirmation, call the borrowers to confirm the signing time. I like to give them my cell number in case something comes up and they are not there, or maybe docs don't show up, etc.
Next, show up as planned, sign docs.
The package, or confirmation should have directions for you to follow regarding how to get the docs back, and where to send.
Good Luck!!

Don't feel bumped it's happened to me before, and if you were nervous then it was probably better that you did not get the signing. Read article 33325 and keep researching, so you can build your confidence.
When you receive a call from a SS and accept the signing, they will send you an email confirmation. (if SS does not mention that they will send you an email confirmation, make sure you let them know to please send you a email confirmation) because this is proof that they hired you for this signing. Also this confirmation will have certain procedures that they will want you to follow and it will have the borrower address, date and time of signing. Also remember you set the price.. They will make you an offer and if your not confortable with the price then let them know before accepting signing.

Always, Always use a cell phone and keep it on you at all times. I missed so many signings due to not getting to my cell phone in time. Then, I bought a case that clips onto my waistband. I now rarely miss a signing--except when I forget to clip it on. :-)

it happens to all of us (I think )
I have trained myself to have my cell attached to my body. That's all I can offer, and don't worry the calls will come, when they do, negotiate for the highest fee they can offer and get a confirmation.

"Should have just called back and winged it, as I'm sure it would have been fine and you learn from experience right?"
WRONG!!!!! In some instances, learning from experience is good, this is not one of them. I hope the person that does my loan actually knows what they are doing and not winging it. You are talking about the largest investment many of the borrowers have ever made. I wouldn't want the largest investment I ever make to be handled by some one with the attitude of "you learn from experience right?"
Not to mention that if you get it wrong you are personally liable for ALL damages caused by your mistakes. You may want to have your friend walk you through a few more before deciding to wing it with another persons investment.
BTW, I know that my response means I'm jealous and afraid of competition, so you don't need to tell me. Unless of course you really want to .

Re: Lydia Esther regarding your reply here.....
From your reply on here it sounds to me as you are kicking yourself for missing a $50 signing including e-docs? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! I hope you were meaning that to be sarcastic. Thats the biggest issue discussed on this board is how we need to say NO to the $50 companies.

I didn't take offense Jon...
I thank everyone for their input. It's all been really helpful. And Jon, I take your comment about handling someone's investment very seriously as I think that's a really good point and everyone should do that. However, I've factually felt really good about the signings that I've done so far (not so nervous about that, since I've walked through a few with my friend and have also done some on my own -- although I'm sure I'll just keep learning even more as I go). So I wasn't actually nervous about the signing, but more about the call back to the SS (as dumb as that sounds), because I would like to appear professional to them and not look stupid so they're not afraid to actually contract me for the job.
And a little competition is healthy right... just a lot is somewhat annoying (LOL :>).

I totally understand about losing a call, I lost 5 in one day my first week just because I didn't have my cell attached to me. The phone is our lives, our $$$$, and just so you know.........I tried calling them right back and they already had the jobs filled.........within 2-3 mins. Its not worth the chance by not answering it when it rings.
