New in Michigan...Do you need a Stamp?
I am new to this and trying to learn but I was unsure if I needed to order a stamp when notarizing in MI? I have a friend who does it in Ohio and she does but I cannot find a solid answer about MI.
Any other tips for getting started woud be appreciated!

A stamp is not required in Michigan. But there is so much you would need to print, type, or stamp on each notarization that I don't know why you wouldn't want to get a stamp. It would make your life so much easier.
Here's a link verifying this: http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127-1638_8736-85771--,00.html

No, legally you do not need a stamp.
Yes, if you want to work as a signing agent, regardless of state law.
Lenders and title companies want stamps even if the state doesn't require it, such as Michigan.
If you want to do closings. Get the stamp or your will not be called again. You cannot win this battle if you want to work. No not bother with an embosser unless you do adoption notarizations.
Get two stamps, one that says acting in and your home county and one that has a line for you to write in the "out" counties.

Julie, Thanks for the great idea. My commission is coming up for renewal this winter and I will definitely order TWO stamps as the majority of my work is done in my home county.
