OFF THE TOPIC - Tropical Storm Katrina
Well here we go again....never a dull hurricane season in the sunshine state...I know it is still to soon to tell exactly where this thing will be going BUT it looks like anywhere along the East Coast of our state...some models even have this thing doubling back after it gets out into the gulf...I guess from last years expreience, we are old pros huh?
Just a funny little note (it wasnt exactly funny back then but)...After Hurricane Charley last year, I had a tree on my home, a tree on both of my vehicles, no power for 9 days and a newborn baby in 95 degree weather...I had a closer who was extremely perterbed at me because I didnt cut checks as scheduled. My response was that there was no way that I could have cut checks at the moment because I had no power..His response..."when you operate a business, you need to be able to keep your personal issues out of it". Personal Shmersonal...60% of florida was without power.....and this was a SA who I had a longstanding relationship with and knew I pay twice per month like clockwork...I guess I should have slipped FPL a couple grand to get my power turned on in time to cut checks....LOL...just thought I would share.
So please say a prayer that I wont lose power should Katrina decide to come my way...Thanks!

My goodness, I was trying to tell my daughter that even though she thinks it's "cool" to have a storm with her name that it is not good news. I do hope that all ends well for you. We have friends that were affected last year by the storms in Florida.

Shame on you for not spending thousands of bucks and installing a huge commercial sized generator so you could cut the poor guys check! LOL! Seriously though, hopefully it will miss you this time around, we'll keep our fingers crossed for you, and if it does end up coming your way, please let us know how you faired once things are back up and running again. (PS for those that take my 1st line seriously, it was said, "tongue in cheek")

I had three trees fall on my house last year. I have three business entities that I run. Notary signings, Inspections and Ebay. I have to have a laptop in my car and a printer. I was without power for 2 weeks and I never missed a day working. With the hurricanes I got hurricane damage inspections, did notary signings. Yes I worked out of my car and my husband brought me food and drinks. Now I am FEMA certified and I am ready to work after a disaster.

Hey Sherri, I am concerned about Katrina too.... I was only in Florida 8 months last year when Charley hit and bam hit with a Cat 4 hurricane that made land fall 15 miles north of me!! One tree down, a damaged fence and lots of holes in my lanai screen. Power was out for 7 days but now that I think about it, it is because of Charley that I am an SA now....
I was working for a TC at the time and since I have an asmatic Mother and my Father who was still recovering from a stroke when Charley hit and they really couldn't take the heat and the stress of it all so we left the day after Charley and stayed on the East Coast of Florida for a few days, we returned that following Monday (Charley hit on Friday the 13th) I called the TC and told them I would be out Monday. They called me back and said that I needed to get into the office, we had a lot of work to do, what with flashlights and courier pigeons? Anyway after that I said no more and I began my jounrey into self employment, so here I am an SA all because of Hurricane Charley.

Most of us understand the problem. I had checks coming from two different SS in Flordia around the time of the hurricanes. Both came a little late, one even came with an apology. You can't change the weather, even if you try! We had no power or phones for several days after a tornado knocked down the neighborhood last July 2004. Who was I going to blame? I couldn't get calls, and even if they came on my cell until the battery went dead (couldn't recharge it), I couldn't have done any work anyway....no way to print docs. Just had to grin ( or better still grimace) and bear it! Good Luck, hope nothing bad happens this time!
