Signing Services late payments always?

I swear when dealing with most of the SS I feel like i have to chase my money down. It is getting very old. I sent a second notice last night out to one of them that i did a Closing for in the beginning of July and i tagged an extra $20 on there for late fees. I dont expect for them to pay me but maybe it will get the ball rolling to pay me soon.

Whats your take on this? I have never had to chase my money down with a Title Company it is always these dinky SS that do this to me at least ..

I agree. It does not take a loan thirty days to fund, but some companys wait 30 days to pay their notaries. I put all of the signing companys first that pay within two weeks. The companies that pay slow I try to limit my work with them And I charge a higher fee to do the signing because it takes over 30 days to get paid. So far I have increased my earnings by signing up with companies that pay when the loan funds. This month has been great.

When I accept a signing from a SS I've never worked with, I do a search on the boards. Not just this one. If I find more negative than positive posts, I don't do the job. I will cancel a signing if I find this to be the case after I accept it. And I tell them why I'm cancelling. I also keep a NO NO list by my computer and one in my dayplanner. This helps me avoid a lot of collection problems. After 5 years and in 3 states, I've only had to go into serious collection mode three times.

I have had the same problem with 1 Company. It took them almost 2 1/2 months to pay me for a closing. Their where no mistakes on my part. Then they agreed on a fee with me when I went all the way out to a closing and the client refused to sign after sitting their almost an hour with the client trying to get her to sign my Notary Journal, she said that she was not going to sign it because of the high fees. I called the ss to let them know and the person said to me that they would pay be $30 for traveling their. I sent them an invoice and low and behold next month came and a letter was received saying that they would only pay me $25. Well guess what I'm still waiting for payment after sending 2 letters. I know how you feel. I'll never work for them again. The name of the signing company is Notaries Nationwide. Put them on your beware list to not contact them. They never pay on time.

I own a signing services and I do agree with you regarding late payment...You should not have to wait over 30 days to get paid. However, I will tell you that the grass is not much greener on my side either..Believe it or not, the title companies don't always pay us when the loan funds. I have quite a few clients who pay me once per month for all of the loans closed on the previous month. Right now I have one client who owes me $6000 for loans that closed in July. Although I do not always get paid in a timely fashion, I still pay my closer twicer per month and sometimes more if feasible. So basically, I am paying my closers before I even get paid...but I do regardless because I realize that I cannot keep my notaries happy if I do not pay them in a reasonable time frame.

On another note, there are also times that I have made oversights in payments to closers. When I am dealing with 480 closings per month, I have on occasion, neglected to pay a closer. I am by no means making excuses but it happens....and I do my best to correct the problem in a timely manner. Although there are some agencies who choose not to pay closers, there are also some who do pay there closers and have the occasional oversight. I guess what I am trying to say is that I would hope that SA's would give the SS the benefit of the doubt before putting us on your no-no list. In some instances, the non-payment is just a simple mistake.

I have one SS that has been a "regular" for a long time. Their payments arrive, on average, 45 days after the signing. No problem because I know the money is good and it's coming. The rest of my "regulars" pay within 30 days. I have 2 that pay even sooner than that. I, too, will not accept a signing for a company on my list. If a new-to-me SS or TC calls, I give them a check on the message boards. I will turn down companies with too many negs. And yes, if I have to, I will cancel a made appt. and let them no it's because of their payment rep with other notaries.

I find that due to the agreement that SS have made with title companies and lender, that is how they making their payment. In my individual agreements with Title companies and I am listed on the hud, I am paid at time of funding like clockwork. I don't do many SS signings and the reason is the wait to get paid. Since I am on a cash basis, it makes it really hard to count my money for bookkeeping purposes.

Oversights are understandable and should be expected. The SS's I have problems with are the ones that alway have an excuse or just flat lie. I have heard every kind of excuse there is, embesslement, setting up a new system (takes 2 years to set it up), you forgot your W-9 (bs) we have'nt been paid yet, (SO WHAT not my problem) you get the drift here. The ones I WILL work for again are the ones that tell me "we're sorry, we some how missed you."

Late Payments-"dinky"ss

Please do not refer to all of us as "dinky ss." Some of us are very reputable and pay the signing agents with whom we contract twice a month without having to be called an reminded. Many times, my accounts are in arrears, but the sa is paid!

Re: Late Payments-"dinky"ss

Yes, there is. I think this board has a thread where someone has compiled a list of companies where board posters have complaints. I think you need to do a search on this board and enter the key words, "low, slow, no pay."
