Stick together and boot them out!
I got a call yesterday for a signing from SOX. I do recall that these people are bad news but I wanted to see if perhaps they have cleaned up their act. I find out yesterday that the recent reviews on them has not changed. So i wrote them back and told them that based on the reviews on their company, I've decided to decline the assignment.
I think that all of us here should do the same when getting called by companies who don't pay. They should not stay in business by preying on new notaries, get their money and conveniently "forget" to pay the signing agent. I'm assuming they prey on new notaries because of their fee structure (which is a joke - although they agreed to meet my fee). Perhaps those who have been burned by SOX would share who the title companies were that hired SOX and we enlighten them - and to take a step further, even recommend other SS to them.
I don't mean to shut down people's businesses, i'm not mean spirited but we can let companies hang us out to dry either. Nothing personal, sometimes we do what we have to.

I have a link to my PayPal acct that I email "no or slow pay" companies. I've only had to use it once but instead of turning down "no pay or slow pay" companies, I'd give them the opportunity to pay in advance before services are rendered.

Yesterday, while logged into NR, I received a call from SOX wanting me to do a signing today. That was the third call I had turned down with them, even though I am not booked for that time. I just will not work with them again. They never want to pay a decent fee, you do the post signing call, etc. and they still call the next day to ask if it closed. Then, they take months to pay. Not my kind of company to work with. Signature Plus isn't any better!!

thought i would add my 2cents to the others re: SOX. I finally got paid for signings i did in May and June. Of course, this was only after threatening legal action against them, which i was fully prepared to do. my time is too valuable to waste on this agency. would recommend anyone considering taking that "fast" $50 to rethink it. you'll be lucky if you get it late, if not never.

Re: Dont you mean Signature One Brenda?
I delt with Signature One, they met my fee no problem. I think the only reason they did that is they paid me with a check drawn on a closed account. Still fighting that one, aparently Lisa was "in a major auto accident"....Yeah right

Re: Dont you mean Signature One Brenda?
No, it is Signatures Plus in OC in Cali. The last job I did for them, I sent the invoice as they requested on the first of the month following the signing. Was supposed to get payment in 45 days (which is much too long). Never received payment, so I started calling. They started promising. Finally, after about four months, the payment showed up.

Seems like at SOX their right arm doesn't know what the left arm is doing. After I emailed to them the night before, declining the assignment. Someone else calls me to see if I've confirmed the appointment with the borrower. Mind you, she called right at the time the appointment was originally scheduled for! Then 4 hours later, someone else called to ask how the signing went!
