In five years I have never had borrowers sign, John Doe, as Trustee. They have signed "John Doe, Trustee" or "John Doe, Trustee for the John and Mary Doe Family Trust dated Aug 21, 2004".
The Signing Registery shows the borrower would sign James Doe, Trustee. Chapter 6.
The NNA Notary Signing Agent Certification Cousre page 242 shows the person signing it like the two examples I gave.
The NASA Handbook (the very first Signing Agent Handbook) page 37 gives an example John D Smith, Trustee.
If a title company asks you to have the borrower sign John Doe, "as" Trustee. That is what you do. Generally when title is saying have the borrower sign as trusttee also, they are just saying have them sign with trustee after their name.
Hope this helps.
