Turn 'em down...It's working!

I've gotten numerous calls this past week from companies soliciting that they have signing for my area and wonder if I'd be available. Wasting my cell time with their drill questionaires (what kind of printer do I have? How far do I travel? How much do I charge? etc.) only to find that they are looking to expand their database after I asked where about the signing and what they pay for the job. I kindly said thank you, but call me only if they can meet my fee.

It's either slowing down for those companies or they are running out of (low pay) notaries in some area. What else can a scheduler do beside recruiting/marketing when there is no order to fill and s/he is on the clock.

I was doing some signings for a $50 company for the past month (HELOCs, all within about a 2 mile radius from my house), but on the last one, I just decided that it wasn't worth the effort any more. They called me yesterday to book another one and I very politely said "No, thank you, unless you can pay more for these, I won't be doing them anymore".

I felt bad about turning down work, since I've been a bit slow lately, but not 30 seconds after I hung up, I got a call from an escrow office to do a signing. They met my fee no problem!

I was recently asked to do a 1st and 2nd by a signing company. They only wanted to pay me an additioanl $35.00 for the 2nd loan. Given the location (1 hour each way) I stuck to my base fee of $75.00 per signing. They said forget they would find someone else. I'm in a rural area so an hour away is a lot of miles (not traffic time)... plus gas. Was I unreasonable? What should I charge for a 1st & 2nd? How does anyone handle signings that are quite a distance away?

Wow! $75 base fee for an hour drive?

That's super low. I do many rural signings also. I would have quoted about $200 for a first and 2nd an hour away.

Hola Violet, Where are you located

I do quite a few Spanish language signings because there is no one else in my area and I get a pretty good fee for them too. Where are you located because sometimes I am too busy to do a signing and wne I need someone who is bilingual I'd like to refer it to you. I'm on the Northern California Coast.

Hola,
I am in Kern County and willing to venture out a littlle bit further if needed. How far north are you and how far south do you travel for signings.
