Va Notaries-Beware Danger in Richmond!
Title counsel in Hampton told me yesterday there is something afoot in Richmond to make notary signings illegal in VA.

Could you elaborate on that. Thanks.

All I know is that I faxed an ad to the title company office for approval and had notary signings included in the ad and the company counsel called and said take it off because there was something going on in Richmond to make it illegal and that I could get in trouble with the ad. Not CRESPA registered or something of the sort. I'll see if I can find out more, but being over on the Eastern Shore, I'm about as far out of things as you can get and still be in VA.

I called the Va Lawyers Bar Accocition @ 804 775 0500 and was told that Notaries may close loans as long as they do not handle money.

I think that is true as the law stands, but that some group there wants to change it. I hope not. If there was not a problem, why would she have told me that?.......just wondering....the title company shouldn't be paranoid about it I wouldn't think....maybe I'm missing something here. Wouldn't be the first time. I would think the attys would kill it if they could.

Yikes! I hope they don't do to you what they did to us in Utah...... They just passed a law where you have to have your escrow license to "touch" mortgage docs!

I would be willing to bet that is what they are working toward. Everyone will have to be bonded, have E & O and be registered with the bar.
