fax backs argh!!!
So I get a call for a signing. Lately I've been rethinking fees due to gas prices. Well I take the fee which I could call an "ok" fee but the drive is a bit further than I like to go. That's ok though until I get the confirmation and find out they want fax backs. About 13 pages of them. Had I known I would have asked for more. But no I've already accepted the assignment. Argh!!!

Hey for those who want fax backs of the DOT they are just asking for the first and last pages right?

Always ask about fax backs
If I get called by a company that is new to me, I always ask if they have fax back requirements. If they do, I politely tell them that I don't do fax backs anymore (exceptions include a confirmation of signing, the HUD, one or two docs...). Quite often they waive this requirement. Vital was the last one to waive the requirement. (In all fairness, I'm rural and they often have nobody else to go to.)
The moral of the story is to always ask and then not to accept the assignment if there are too many fax backs. They'll either waive it or you don't do it. Either way, your life will be easier.

this is just the way I look at it, I am not makeing a sugestion that you do so nor am I making recommendations. As I see it there is a verbal contract when you accept the job fi you get the confirmation and there are additional requirements that is a change to the contract. I consider it a unilateral contract one which I do not have to ratify. I can ratify it by continuing to do the work or I can reject it. I recently took on a signing from an SS and when I recieved the confirmation rhere were stipulations on the confirmation that I did not accept. In particular the SS stipulated that they had additional requirements that were subjective after the job was over whihc could result in me not getting paid at all. I immediately rejected the contract and e-mailed them that I would not do the signing under those conditions.

When I call a signing agent to do a signing, I let them know that I do require them to fax me back the notarized pages. They only have to do this the first couple of times they do a signing for me, this is to make sure they are doing the notarizations correctly as per Fl law. You would be surprised how many do not completely fill in the notary certificates as per Fl law. I haven't had anyone complain yet. There have been a couple of signing agents who have done the signings and sent the docs back without faxing the required pages first. Those that do that have to wait until I get paid (which is when the loan funds) before I sent their check out. (They are still getting their check in about a week, which is still faster than a lot of companies pay). When they fax me back the notarized pages and they are OK'd, then the check is cut right away.

Oh Sylvia if that were the case I wouldn't mind. But it's the lender's requirement not the ss's. When I got the call and they told me $85 I was thinking $65 signing and $25 printing. Then I find out they want 23 pages faxed back and thier fee breakdown sheet (which was sent as a link to print) said they pay $40 to $50 base signing, $25 printing, $20 for fax back of over 20 pages. Had I had any idea this was a $40 base I would've said "my fee is $65 signing and $25 e-docs". Now I'm stuck, I called the ss and had to leave a message. It would be unprofessional of me to leave them out in the cold so I wont. But I think it's unprofessional for them to present it to me the way they did.

When called for a signing I always give them my fee for the signing. If it is more than they want to pay I will ask what they will pay. If it is close to my fee and the signing isn't far I will sometimes accomodate their fee. But I always ask if there are fax backs - especially if it is a signing service. 23 pages faxed back is ridiculous. I would be tempted to put the whole darn loan package in the fax machine and send them the whole thing and let them sort out what they want. (But, I do have a flat $15 a month fee for long distance calls, so it doesn't matter how many calls etc I make or how long the calls are)

Sylvia, I knew there was a reason I liked you. I've been tempted to send the whole package back before myself. Like you, I pay a flat fee for long distance, so it wouldn't cost me any more to send back those docs. However, my 4 in 1 that I use for outgoing faxes takes forever to send, but I can dream! LOL

When there is a fax back requirement that you were not informed about, politely call the company back and explain that you charge "X" amount for fax backs (whether it is $1.00 per page or and extra $10.00 per 20 pages).
Most companies will revise your fee, or will drop the fax back requirement altogether.
You cannot be held hostage for a job if the terms have changed. If they change the job by adding other duties, you should be compensated for each additional duty. Do not allow companies to take advantage of you.

Re: fax backs Notarypro is worst
They require fax back of 3 pages so they can see you know how to print docs. Then fax backs after closing.

Re: fax backs Notarypro is worst
Well the good news is they didn't want the full DOT so it ended up being 50 signing, 25 e-docs, 10 fax. I just told them that I accepted the assignment and I would do it. But had I known it was a 50 job in the first place I would never have accepted. So next time we'll negotiate.
