why oh why...

can't the TC let the borrower know BEFORE they send instructions to us, to have a copy of their license? After calling to confirm...I had the last two people tell me...Oh man! Now I have to go back out or back to work to make a copy! Not all of us have copy machines in our homes!

I keep a digital camera with me. For those borrowers that forget, I "make" the copy and then print it out to send with the docs. No borrower or TC or Lender has had a problem with this and it saves everyone a little time and headache.

A Camera phone? That would cost the SS more money for me to do a signing.

Many times the TC will just have me write down the info with the borrower's promise to fax copies over the next day. This usually works pretty well. The TC controls the funds so I am sure the borrower's comply when they know their money is at stake.

I know what you mean. I got so tired of running around to find a copy machine at kinkos, cvs, and the like--that I bought a portable copier that I keep in my truck. Although, I always advise the borrower to have a copy ready for me, on a few occasions the borrower forgets and does not have fax/scanner/copier in home. For these occasions, I thank God for my handy-dandy portable copier. It has saved me lots of time and gas. They are fairly cheap too. I picked mine up at OfficeMax. It has paid for itself three times over.

Buying a portable copier might be just what the doctor ordered for you as well.

JMHO...hope it helped.

My husband bought me a digital camera last year for Christmas and I LOVE it. It has been a life saver many, many times. Just make sure you buy one that can zoom in on all the print on the license. I'm pretty sure my husband said that there are some that do and some that don't. Before I got the digital camera though, I tried using my camera phone...and it didn't focus in on the lettering, so that didn't work. :(

I usually ask about a current government issued photo i.d when I call to confirm, and at that time, I let them know that they need to also have a copy ready when I get there to send back with the package. Only once did the borrowers have a last minute issue with their i.d.s even though I had talked to them about it when I confirmed the appoitment. The husband had left his at work, and the wife couldn't find hers, but I was running a bit late from another signing which gave him time to run back to work and she had found hers by the time I got there. they also had a copy machine in their home so it all worked out. There was another time where the borrower had recently renewed his license and the DMV had kept the old photo one and just given him the temp. paper one, but that worked out too when he got the new one in the mail about an hour before the signing

Want to know something funny???

In my area... everybody has a copy machine! I can be doing a signing in a po-dunk trailer on a property that looks like Sanford and Sons and you better bet they have a super duper copy machine. Not a fax all-in-one... but a real big fancy machine! It is actually kind of funny. The copier probably cost more than the car they drive!
