A Public Message for Mr. Bromberg AKA Chicago Bob

Mr. Bromberg,
It has been brought to my attention that you are taking away work from me and my fellow notaries here in the ChicagoLand area. I have been informed from several title companies that you have assured them that you can cover all work in the area and have given them list of people working for you, which I know for a fact not all people listed on your list work for you. I have worked very hard to establish my business and rely on this for my full time income. If you are a signing service than declare yourself as such, if not then share the wealth of business with your fellow notaries and quit being such a PIG!!!

Just out of serious curiousity, why did you post this on here?

Why didn't you just email him personally?

Since you're posting as anon once "again" how do you expect him to reply with any type of respect other than "get lost"?

People, please pass the booze. I need a shot. Patron?

It's totally assinine to post this here. If Bob can handle the business, apparently you are doing something wrong to get passed up. Generally people that don't turn down assignments make it to the call first list. Send an e-mail if you have a problem and you need to call someone a name!

Anon...

I personally think you're wayyyyyyyy out of line here. First you trash someone's reputation, you take pot shots at him AND you don't have courage enough to identify yourself. You're on a slippery slope with this one...I doubt seriously if my peers will disagree. Psst...if you're gonna whine AT THE VERY LEAST try to do it with some attitude. Sheesh...this was disgusting.

don't you work for him? You are in IL?

Charm aren't you in IL. I recall you saying you were. Your screen name is confusing. I am pretty sure you said you were working with Bob in an email to me. I will have to reread your old emails perhaps I am wrong but I do not think I am.

If you are a good notary you will be booked and at some point and time have to turn down an assigment. Bob does not turn them down because he takes them and farms them out. Now the real question is do they know he is farming them out to less experienced notaries like yourself. When companies hire me they get me. When they hire him theyget the new notary of the month that Bob just picked off the notary board when they posted "new here in IL I need help".........

I can see why the person would be upset. We all work hard to establish ourselves. When you contacted me I offered to refer business to you on the south side of Chicago and asked you to do the same to me. That is a working relationship. It does not make sense for me to drive an hour south to cover your area and vise versa. If I wanted to be a signing service I would take a cut and send you on the appointment. I was told the other day by company XYZ he was taking edocs appointments for $110. Then I was told by a notary here in IL they were doing an edoc for him for $75. It is hard to compete with those prices.

Re: don't you work for him? You are in IL?

No I'm in Alabama. How is my screen name confusing?? Was born and raised in Chicago and moved down here 3 years ago. You will never find an e-mail that states I work(ed) for Bob, you and I never talked email or otherwise. He does not farm them out, he does them all himself.

Re: don't you work for him? You are in IL?

I already stated I confused you with someone else. There is another notary who post a name similar to your on GMN but she is really in IL and she puts AL after her name. My apologies for that error.

However Bob does not do all of appointments himself. How do you know that. I can name at least 4 notaries who take appoints from him

Constance, Gaynell, Desiree, Christine that is off the top of my head. I speak with 2 of them on a regular basis.

You may have answered your own question...

Anonymous posts which are directed at someone are not for anything other than to be sinister and hurtful.

I hate when a signing service is cutting in on me but it happens all the time to SAs.

I hate that one of my "good" friends is one of them who has cut in on my turf. . It was hard, but I am not a person who believes I deserve whatever I want. I only deserve what I earn.

Anonymous, the truth is that I could do the same thing. I could schedule like a big dog but people would really hate me because I would be so worried about the job being done correctly . I would micro-manage.

I would seriously consider it if except that I know my limitations and I would not be good at it. Period. That's that. Now, should I feel that my friend hold back and not have a great business because I know I am not SS material? (Should Bob hold back because you don't want to fill the bill for a SS in your area?)

Should my girlfriend NOT take my business as part of her bids and then broker it back to me if I want to take it?

Why not? If she can, WHY NOT?

Because I am special??? Because I am not good enough to hold my own like an adult so she needs to be nicer to me and treat me like a child?

If she's got the guts and moxie to do it I would be a pathetic friend to have if I said that I wanted her to take away from her family to make me happy. That's titty-baby stuff. I 'll compete with her like a professional woman should compete. I will defend my business in an HONORABLE way...not like this.

You may have answered your own question as to why you have lost business. Honor is important. What you did here is not honorable and you have doubled a low light on yourself by doing it without your name. This was not the place to jump Bob with or without your name....well, if you wanted respect, that is.

I would NOT confront my friend her by throwing a tantrum at her...and certainly not publicly and certainly not ANONYMOUSLY.

Re: To the coward

Apparently while you are hiding behind the coward shield, Chicago Bob is out hustling his rear and covering *all work* in ChicagoLand while you are sitting here posting and wanting us to feel sorry for you. Why don't you face the problem headon and figure out *WHY* the title companies are passing you by and making Bob a busy boy while you have none.

OINK OINK.

let me clarify....

Boy after reading all of this I think it deserves a response from an IL notary. First let me state that I did not post the original message. But I will add a few comments here.

1st - Signing services are not allowed to set up shop in the state of Illinois. It is an illegal act violating the Title Act in IL. All one would really need to do is forward this info about him operating as a signing service to the State of IL and he mostly would get a cease and desist letter.

2nd: I was approached by a Title Company and Signing Service just this week that thought I worked for Bob. I asked them why they would think that. They replied I was on his list of notaries. Hmm, interesting I thought. I asked then why are you calling me direct then. The company # 1 told me they no longer wished to do business with him but recognized my name on 123notary.com and would I handle their appointment for them. I clarified that I do not and have never worked for him but I would be happy to help them. Company #2 said they stated they could not get a hold of him and since I had the same email address as his they thought I worked in his office as well. Same email I replied ..... It is not the same, his is 123notary@sbcglobal and mines is [e-mail address] (just an example not our real emails). Then we spoke a little further. They said they called Bob first because he never turned anything down he was always available. So I said "amazing how he can do all these appointments by himself." Then we had a little talk about all of his notaries that they did not know worked for him. They did not know he was farming out all of the work to other newbie notaries who will take 40 or 50 dollars. The were paying him $85 for the signings but offered me $100 because they wanted experience and they had to many errors from his notaries.

So point is IF you are going to be a signing service then declare yourself as a business. Get a business name, have a business identity and be a signing service. Bob is a notary who is taking all the work he can get and then farming it out and in many cases these companies do not know he is doing it. Some do, some don't. I find it funny though to take an appointment from a signing service and then to farm it out to another notary. If he wants to be a signing service then good for him. It is how he muddies the transaction that people get pissed about.

I have been around as long as Bob in this industry if not longer. I use to be on friendly terms with Bob until people started confusing my company with him. I was a signing agent when the NASA first began and long before the NNA took it over. There are a few of us old timers here in IL who are very established and often have to clean up the mess these less experienced notaries create. What I offer and what he offers are apples and oranges. When you offer a lower price for volume - you will get more calls. However he does not offer experience so you get what you pay for. He is not real well liked by the NSA's here in IL. You may like him here but then again you do not really know him now do you?

More people would have taken the original poster seriously had they not posted as an Anon.

I don't know Bob, so I can't say yea or nea as to what you and Anon are saying. However, it's not just Illinois where SSs and TCs are getting what they pay for when chosing a lower priced, inexperienced notary -- *too many erros from newbie notaries*
