Anon for this one
Working for one of my regular title co's today in their office and the realtor who representing the buyer wanted to know what the charge of $35 for the download fee was for. I thought never really thought about it and was never asked what it was for. So I told her that I was not sure, but I would check and let her know. She tells me that she has been doing this for 30 years and she has never heard of such a charge. So I politely tell her that I will check on it and let her know. Well, well, well...it's for EDOCS!!! The manager told me that it is what they charge because so many packages come in via email instead of o/night now, so now they are bearing the cost of downloading, toner, paper and the price of the printers they go through.
So why is the industry standard $25? Yes I know many of you will say because people don't stand up. What does it take a Notary Union?

I've seen tens of thousands of Huds, and $25-50 fee pd to title co is pretty much a standard in Mid-West, has been for years. Labeled all different ways - edoc fee, download fee, doc prep, print fee, etc. There's always new & creative fee labels, but for a RE Agent to have never seen "download fee" is kind of hard to believe.

There is no industry standard. The $25 is what SS's and TC's would like to pay, but there are many, many NSA's who get considerably more than that for handling edocs.
As an FYI, watch your paper costs increase in the coming months. As gas prices increase, so does the overall transportation and shipping costs. Not to mention the manufacturing costs. And since the GDP rose again (as reported by the federal government), you can bet prices on domestic products such as paper, toner, etc. is going to increase as well.

It is interesting how people just the cost of edocs.
Once I hit a certain amount in a fee, I either do not charge (if fee is $200+) or I charge less than $25.00.
Most of the time I quote an all inclusive charge assuming edocs. Then if they ask me how much for edocs, I realize there is some play there and depending on circumstances I might add a bit.
