Brother 8220 users.

I have an 8220. I pretty much just leave it filled with legal paper, but can now afford an extra paper tray. If I buy an extra tray and put 8.5 by 11 in tray 1 and legal in the extra tray, will it automatically pull the right size paper to print on for mixed pdf files?

It probably will not do it automatically. You need to set it up.

Clickstart, click settings, click control panel, click printer & faxes, right click brother 8220 icon,
go to device settings. If it has a manual feed, set it for envelope #10, Tray #1 for letter, and tray #2 legal, also make sure it is set for printer auto select, hit apply.

Go to a pdf document, hit print, check the box (middle of the page) that states choose paper source by pdf page size. Hit ok. That should do it.
