Competition
I got a call for CA notary and Doc Signers on 12/7 for a closing that same day. They emailed me confirmation. I got a call about 2hours later that the signing was cancelled. I thought that the SS sounded weird. So I called the borrower today and acted like I was from the SS and asked the borrower how the sigining went on 12/7, borrower replies oh it went fine. So the SS lied to me and gave the closing to my competition, which I know who my competition is because I had an SS give me a couple of her signings last week because she had a personal problem and get this I had to call my competition so she could email me the docs. She's doing closing for 75 (50 closing and 25 edocs) I asked for 55 closing and 25 edocs because it was only 15 mins away.

I would send them a bill and call to speak with a manager. They crossed the line when they sent you that confirmation. This is NOT a game we are running a business. I think they should pay you for that one. They were a way out of line.

Maybe they acted irresponsibly, but YOU calling the borrower and pretending to be the SS is also irresponsible.

Teddog has it right. And, no, it's not irresponsible to call & check what really happened--provided it's handled well & I think it was. It's called "Market Research".

Re: Competition - Lee
I'm with you - it's not something I'd want to do on a regular basis but anon had a hunch on this one - with a confirmation in hand and booking their time, I'd want to know what happened too.

Re: Competition - Lee
As a signing service i have been contacted by a title company for a closing. I have spent the time calling to find a signing agent to fill the signing (I just had one like this the day before Thanksgiving, and trying to find an experienced signing agent to do a signing the day before Thanksgiving was not easy), so I finally found someone to fill the signing. Then the title company calls me back with an apology. they are sorry, but the loan officer, who is going to be at the signing, prefers to use one particular notary and had already arranged the signing with that notary - and omitted to tell the title company. However, I called the notary and explained the reason it was being cancelled with them and she understood. She hadn't called the borrower to set a time yet so it was no big deal.
I think the signing services should be honest with the notary when they are cancelling a signing with them.

This happens to me A LOT- and the reason I know is both my wife and I do closings. They will send me a confirmation and then my wife will get a call from them-asking if she is available!for the same closing!- (My wife still uses her maiden name)-She quotes them her fee and then they tell here-I will call you if I can get that approved! Ya Right!

Re-visiting Doc Signers w # (626) 446-3477
Their number is (626) 446-3477 -
Before I call and cancel them off my book for tomorrow I want to be sure. They called me around 11 30 am. I told them if they had a bad notary payment history I would not do the job. This does not look good.
It's been a couple of hours and no confirmation so I am inclined to think they are still looking. It would be a 30 - 40 mile drive and they did not back up on my fee which is set high enough to make it worth my while. Probably don't intend to use me.
No matter how tough I talk, I still hate to cancel a loan appointment. Please post any updates or horror story moments for me if you have had bad times with them if you have a minute. I'll keep searching, but any input is appreciated.
