HP 1320t legal letter
I am trying to print a pdf file using PS driver, because I know this is faster then PCL, however, the first page prints correctly, but all other pages print everything in letter sized, even though the preview shows the docs correctlr ie: some legal some letter, please help!! I've tried all kinds of setting combos, and the PCL works fine, but SLLLOOOWWWWWWW, PS is fast but wont print in the diofferent sizes even though settings are both the same. Thanks

Make sure you have 'scale to size' option off.
Also make sure you have the tray set to correct paper size.

First go to the HP toolbox or Control Panel (Printers & Faxes). Go to device settings. Set tray 1 (Manual tray) to envelope #10. Tray #2 to letter and Tray #3 to Legal. Then go back to the document. Hit print. A print screen will come up. Put a check in the box next to choose paper source by pdf page size. Then hit ok. This should solve your problem.

If the previous suggestions don't fix the problem install the HP PCL5 driver. I have had very good success this way thanks to a previous answer on this forum from PAW and someone else. Sorry I've forgotten the other person.

I have tried all these options and still have to manually set the size for each doc. You guys must be geniuses.

Unless a document is specifically coded for PostScript, I don't think even Adobe Reader will be able to properly select the proper page size. I remember there was a utility that you had to enter the proper escape sequence into a configuration page so the utility would know how to talk to the printer and select the paper properly.

Recanting my post ...
I just tried printing a multi-mixed page PDF file on my HP LJ 1300 with the PS driver and it did select the proper pages. (Using v7.0.5 of the Reader.) I then tried it on a different PC with a very old reader, 5.0 I think, and it did not properly select legal and letter. It printed everything from tray 1.

Go to start (Bottom Left), then settings, then control panel, then printers/faxes, then properties, then device settings.
Form to tray assignment:
Printer auto select: Not Available Tray #1 Envelope #10 Tray #2 Letter Tray# 3 Legal Manual Feed in tray # 1 : Not Available
Then hit apply. This will save your settings. I think I forgot to mention this on the first reply. This is very important. Your settings will not be saved unless you hit apply. Now go back to document. Hit print. The print screen will then come up. Go down to where it says "choose paper source" by pdf page size. Check the box. Hit ok. It should work.

Re: HP 1320t legal letter - Quick Question Brad
Since it appears that the tray can't be set to accomodate the width of a #10 envelope do you feed it the short way and do you feed it right side up or down. Do you need to adjust your software for the different orientaion of the the envelope or does the printer do that? TIA

Re: HP 1320t legal letter - Quick Question Brad
Charles, You will have to adjust the guides at the front of tray 1. It is the long way front to back, face up, flap to left. At least this is how Word advises me to feed it when I use the envelope wizard. You feed it just like if you were making a deposit at the atm. Hope this helps.

Re: HP 1320t legal letter - Quick Question Brad
Oh ya, also go to www.pawnotary.com, go to downloads, then go to the bottom where it says testfeed.pdf. Click on this and the file will come up. Hit print. The print page will come up. Make sure that box is checked. Hit ok. If your printer is working right, it will print legal, then letter, then legal again.
Thank Paw for putting this on the website.
