Help from the computer techs

When I am typing in an active window in MS Office, the curser will disappear and the window will become "inactive". I have to click within the window to make it active again and click to place my curser back where I left off typing. It can be Excel, Outlook, whatever.

I have run spyware/adware and virus scan. I deleted all of the spyware/adware and no viruses were detected. Can ANYONE please help?

I have the same problem on the computer at the office. I thought it was just me. I would appreciate an answer to this also, if anyone has one.

I'm no expert, but I have noticed that when I am typing, the curser HAS to be in the window in which I am typing. If you have another app open and for whatever reason, the curser (arrow, in my case) gets moved off the page, no typing will appear. I also am not a typist, so I have to look at the keyboard. Naturally, I may have typed a great deal before I notice that there is nothing there. Just a thought: do you 'pound' the keyboard, or hit the mouse enough to make the curser move? I think there's a setting in the set up routine about changing the focus in a document. Might find it if you do a search for 'focus' in Windows Help. I use XP Home.

Are you perhaps using a laptop with one of those touch pads? Sometimes when I type on those I inadvertently move my finger over the pad and the cursor "mouses" elsewhere.

There was an issue about this problem with the release of Office '97 that involved getting the most recent driver for what ever mouse you are using during Win 95 days.

No doubt between the OS and Office there might be a similar problem working here with your problem. Try installing the latest driver.

thanks for the advice. I'll try to update rhe driver. I think it has to be a setting or somethig that I downloaded. If I restore my comuter back to a earlier date, it works fine. The problem is that I istalled software for my pocket pc and it updated me from Outlook 2000 to 2002. The cd will only allow you to install the upgrade one time without entering the product key for 2002. So if I revert back I loose the upgrade.
