Opinions on trip fees
Had an appt scheduled for today. Called last night to confirm and since docs were to be sent to borrower, I asked if they had them. No, they weren't expecting them until this a.m. Arrived at borrower's home (1:00 pm) and yep, you guessed it, no docs. Should I expect a trip fee? (or chalk this one up to assuming too much-lesson learned!)

One time I went to the app. no docs in the borrowers home, called the SS and they sent me a confirmation letter and they paid me double. Borrowers home were 1/4 mile from my home, google maps calculated trip time 58 seconds.
Never work for trip fees, if its not your fault; Demand full fee.

I find it very helpful to call the borrowers before I leave to make sure they have the documents. I was good that you confirmed the night before, but I think I would have either asked them to call me when they received the documents or called again in the morning to be sure.

Blueink, I agree with both Cal and Janet...full fee is due you but it's always wise to call just prior. Hopefully it's someone you've got a good working relationship with.

If anything. I would at lease expect 1/2 my fee as a trip fee.

I would recommend not charging a fee so that you don't put a damper on your relationship. If a lender/agency advises docs have been sent to the borrower, but they don't have them when you call to confirm the appointment, always get the lender/agency to give you the express name and tracking number. That way you can go on line to track the status. It will save you time and gas! Take care, Aarono

Aarono, We all know about tracking - that's a given. This SA did their best, and their time and expertise was taken for granted. I think you are imagining this SS/LO as Santa Claus, at best. "A damper on your relationship"? That's assuming there's a relationship to begin with, which we don't know by the original post. Plainly, the docs weren't there - so what is the SA's time worth? A trip fee at least, or negotiated once they determine where the problem occurred, and how the parties decide to resolve this.
