Second ID

I've been getting some TCs that want copies of 2 forms of ID sent back. Since it is illegal to use a SS card for ID, does anyone have any suggestions for other ID that a borrower would be comfortable having copied? TIA

other forms that I've used or been given the okay by title have been passports, govt. issued work i.d. with photos, military, college i.d. Lenders will let you know what's acceptable to each of them. However, make sure you stay in accordance with your state's specific guidelines for i.d.

Re: Second ID...also

I have found that some lenders don't want the SS as a form of ID just want a copy to go with the DL. I had a borrower refuse to do this.

A second form of ID's is a lender choice. Therefore, the use of a SS card, utility bill, etc., may be acceptable to the lender. (Look at the Patriot Act form that many lenders use, which lists the forms of ID acceptable for that purpose.**) Of course, it may not be acceptable to the State for notarization purposes, but most, if not all, states only require one form of ID or simply the judgment of the notary of 'acceptable' ID.

** On the form that I have in front of me, it states:

The named individual must preset at least two (2) forms of identifying documents for review; at least one (1) of the identifying documents must be a government-issued document bearing a photograph of the named individual. Other identifying documents not specifically listed below must, at a minimum bear the individual's name. Examples of other acceptable identifying documents include:

Current government-issued visa; Medicare card; student identification card; voter registration card; recent property tax or utility bill; most recent W-2 or signed federal or state tax returns; bank statements; and proof of car/house/renter's insurance coverage.

I've used the property tax bill as the second ID for the Patriot Act form, it was listed as PAW said/wrote.

Second ID: Be careful!

CT REQUIRES two forms of ID, and specifically excludes the Social Security Card and birth certificate. With identification, as with everything else, be sure to follow YOUR state's law.
