e-docs with a twist
Here's my story on late e-docs:
Title Co disguised as SS calls me about mid morning about doing e-docs tonight at 7pm in a town about 85 miles from me one way. They met my fee and I said, "Fine."
Afternoon went by...no docs...early evening went by..no docs. Borrower called three times..I told him, "No docs"
Finally, about 7:15pm SS calls and said the docs are on line.
I said, Well, that's OK..but in the meantime weather has set in with heavy fog, freezing drizzle and the roads are sheets of ice and I'm not going to drive in that." That happened about an hour-and-a-half before she called.
She said..."Well, we'll have to find somebody else."
I said, "That's fine..a funeral costs a lot more than what you're paying me." She abruptly hung up on me.
I called the borrower and he said the conditions were the same there and not to come.
Sooo, I'm maybe out a signing, but I'm not in the ditch or crashed.
This SS is one that used to call me quite often and now only once or twice a year and probably after tonight...never.
But, since I didn't have anything else scheduled..and I remembered what a hassle it was with this particular SS previously with e-docs..I decided to let nature take its course.
And, nature did just that...their procrastination, my decision not to hound them for docs and the weather put a fritz on things.
They're mad. I'm not.

I did a closing last week for $125 for a borrower who was 80 miles round trip. There were 13 notarizations and about 100 pages. It took me an hour and a half to complete because I kept catching Mrs. Borrower signing her last name as Smith/Brown/Gonzalez/Fisher (not real names) since she was married about four times. I kept having to have her cross out, initial, and re-sign. This was also in a bad neighborhood where there are bars on all the front screen doors. They said they'd watch while I returned to my car! I felt I should have been paid more, but that was after the fact.
Last night I get a call from the same scheduler saying they "needed" me to go back out to re-sign a new HUD because they made a mistake on the first one. They would pay me $50 to go back out to a bad neighborhood, 80 miles round trip, and it "must be tonight". I said I'd be glad to go but not for $50. I said I'd do it for $100 and of course she hung up after she said she'd check. Lo and behold she called back about 20 minutes later and they agreed to the $100. I was delighted and was glad that I'd held my ground. Got in and out in 2 minutes! Entire drive time and appointment was an hour and a half.
