is this backdating ?

I was getting package ready in the morning for shipping. Spilled coffee on a couple of docs (1st cup and wasn't fully awake). I will print copies of the 3 documents and have borrowers resign at lunch. If I am replacing a document, can I use the original date (yesterday). Or, is that technically back-dating?

TIA

Where are you? These types of questions are usually state specific. And who are you? You would be better to identify yourself so you would get more and better answers.

You would be completely fine to fix this error, and date as the original signing date

Wrong answer ...

... in some jurisdictions. That's why it is so important that a location (i.e. state) be provided.

I forgive you the anon on this one =) I can appreciate your desire to have things absolutely perfect, but if those 3 pages are NOT any of the 'legals' and they don't look too bad, I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Spotted docs from spills are something lenders see ALL day long. Unless it's really awful, or it's one of the legal/collateral docs, it's probably not worth driving all over town to have re-done. I guess what I really mean is - YOU probably care more than anyone ELSE is going to. I'd own it, I wouldn't lie or blame on borrower - but honestly, it's very common.
