slander my reputation????
Here is a question, if I am writing a demand for payment letter to a signing company, and also sending a copy of that letter to the mortgage company, could the signing company slander my reputation????

Have you already contacted the company about your payment? just because you haven't seen itdoesn't mean payment hasn't been sent. If this is your first contact with the company about past due payment, I would not get the mortgage or title company involved yet.

How could they? They are the people who owe you money and they will look stupid as soon as the mortgage company sees that you haven't been paid.
They can try to "slander" you all they want but they probably won't get very far and their reputation will look worse.
How long has it been?

That's definately a long time ago! I would call the mortgage company and get info on the case and find out when/if they paid the SS for this closing.

Did you sign a contract with these companies???
Most SSs have a clause prohibiting the notary from disclosing or discussing the internal operations of the company. I am surprised that some of these companies have not gone after the notaries because there is an argument that discussing how thee companies pay is discussing their internal information. That is another reason I don't enter into contracts with Signing Services. I'm not saying its right but the way the clauses are written it could construed to include collections or derogatory information. Remember these companies have only the flimsiest of reasons for TCs and lenders to use them.

How late is the payment and did you talk to anyone to find out if you did the job right and it closed? Usually a phone call after an invoice isn't paid within 45 days will do it. I would not get the mortgage company involved unless you've exhausted your other methods for collection. Yes, they can slander you if they feel they have a good reason not to pay you.

I have also found out through these threaded conversations that this signing company is known for not paying it's agents. I don't want to be another unpaid agent.

I had a situation like this not once but twice with the same co. and I finally did contact the title company. The title co. was not happy with them and have contacted me directly since. They are lucky you did not out them here let alone them slander you. Don't sweat it. Who wants that kind of business.

You are getting feedback here, that's all. You have to make your own decision based on what you know.

Here is a demand letter I sent to a company. I was sent a copy similar to this, and I edited it to this. I had called them several times before resorting to this:
(Date)
(To: Name & Address
Dear Mr.
Re: Nonpayment of Order numbers xxx and xxx
In August, 2005, I entered into an agreement with your company to perform two loan document signings, in xxxx VA. The aim of this letter is to formally complain that your company has failed in its obligation to pay me for services rendered, per our agreement.
In order for our good working relationship to continue, I expect to be paid for my services within 45 days, which I think is reasonable.
To assist you in the payment of my outstanding invoices, enclosed are copies of the invoices and confirmation emails.
I look forward to your reply and a resolution of my problem, and will wait until (Date) before seeking assistance from the lenders (xxxbank and First xxxx, as well as xxxxx Loan Closing), the Better Business Bureau and other consumer protection agencies and organizations. Please contact me at the address or phone number below.
Sincerely,
R xxxxx
Enclosure(s) Invoice, Confirmations (2)
(Received a check that was dated the day I faxed this.[Of course, they haven't called me for any more closings]<g>)

**could the signing company slander my reputation????**
Yes. They can say and/or do anything they want to do. I never give that a thought when I get ready to collect.
We are not dealing with Sunday School Teachers. Some of these people are out and out cons in designer business wear...some are no more than disreputable hard-sale greedy scumbags. (Some are the nicest you'll ever meet, too.)
It's all about money from start to finish. Amounts, fees and dollars....that's the kind of business we are in. It's gonna be dirty some days.
Grow a thicker skin and learn to be far less concerned about what people say or threaten to do. If you are in the right, do what you need to do.
