uncomfortable signing...

Just got back from my first signing today and man...
I couldn't wait to get out of there! The loan was 60k and more than half of that was to pay off debt. The wife was Asian, the husband retired military. For the first 10 minutes she was complaining about having to sign and did not want to, she was sitting on the floor after she removes her chair from the table!
I heard his whole life story (from her) though out the signing, complaining that this debt was all his because he had a 15 yr affair and spent all his money on her and she could kick him out and so on and on. He just sat there and smiled and kept telling her "sign this" when he was finished signing a doc.
She kept calling him the king and that she is just a housewife, doesn't drive, doesn't know what they have in the bank and on and on. When he went to get a check to void, she said yea make it out for a million dollars!
You know, some things I just don't need to hear!
I felt like asking her if she was a mail order bride. Sheesh!

Anyone else been uncomfortable like this, it was embarrassing.

Was she signing under duress?

no not under duress. Just felt that I should know why they were refinancing and that everything was all his fault because he's the big and little decision maker. Since she was not on anything else concerning the marraige, she felt she didn't need to sign the docs. What she is is resentful that she's spent 44 years being married to him.

That sounded like so much fun.....Sorry to hear about that. The worst one I have had so far is the one where only one person spoke english and she wasn't even on the loan. I am sure there are some headed my way though.

The one I had last night where the cat was playing with the borrower and the cat kept
biting the borrowers pen. The docs end up full of cat hair.

I hope who ever receive the docs are not alergic to cat hair.

It sounds like you should not have done this one. In California we must be able to communicate directly with the signer. We may not use an interpreter.

The signing was cancelled at the table and I know the husband speaks english and he was on the loan he just refused to say anything in english. It was a bad situation all around so I am glad it cancelled.

I had one on Thursday night where the borrower ( a 32 year old single male) had the Playboy channel playing on a very large screen tv just off from where we were sitting. I think it took him a bit to realize there was some pretty heavy action going on in the show. I pretended to be engrosed in finding something on the documents in the hopes that he would take this chance and change the channel. He casualy grabbed the remote and quietly changed the channel without a word. Nothing needed to be said but I could tell he was very relieved. Maybe he thought I didn't notice. Hmmm

Had one last month where I was not sure if the husband was going to end up smacking the wife. He did sign but was a real jerk about. Offered to come back later etc. I am sure if he had hit her in front of me I would have left.

How about a signing where the house is soooo disgusting, nasty, cluttered, dirty and unhealthy looking you just want to run....They offered me something to drink..NO WAY would I or could I have accepted. The worst part was the clients were lied to by their lender. So they cancelled the signing. Unfortunately I had to go back to the dirty dungeon. Thank goodness the money was good...
