Contracts/Agreements
Here's a question that although I searched for, could not really find an answer for. I had a company email me and ask if I was interested in signing up with their company. I said yes and they sent me some stuff to fill out. The problem is that they are asking for my ss#, my DOB and a copy of my notary certificate AND they are asking me to actually stamp the paper. Lastly, they are requesting I fill out a W-9.
My question then, is how much information do you give to these companies when you contract with them? This particular company is Tekely & Associates and they gave an address and phone number and that they pay $100 per closing up to 1 hr away (one way) from contractors office. But in the future, how much information am I expected to give when I am approached by a new company????
Your answers would be helpful.
PS, I've only done 2 closings, both of which someone contacted me, made arrangements over the phone for a one-time thing. I also turned down one of those companies (who paid me very well and timely) when they called the second time cause they would only give me about 4-5 hours notice to do a closing about 120 miles (one way).
Thanks All!

Include your state with your name for more accurate answers. In CA, we cannot send an impression of our seal. Send a copy of your commission instead. For tax ID number, I use an EIN. Drivers license -- a copy of it with the number blacked out.

You won't get paid without a W-9.

That is what most companies require.

Re: Contracts/Agreements add this..
If you are getting all this info together, make a package up and hold onto it. Should include: W-9 Use EIN # if you have, else SS# Copy of Notary Commission Copy of E&O insurance certificate Copy of drivers license ( #s blanked out) What I've done when they ask for a copy of my stamp - make an imprint, cut it in half, put the halves back to bach thus )( then send. With a note that you can't legally stamp except when performing a noterization and, if applicable, that you can't fax by state law (CA ??)
You will get the same request over and over.
Also, this is a good time to outline the area you cover and your fees. Include it with the fax package.

I'm signing with companies as well and did not think to do a package for convenience. Good advice, Art...I'll do that for myself.

Yes, I have had the same concerns. I am only sending personal sensitive info. to those companies that have been previewed here. I don't know if I would do so from an unsolisited email.
