Thanks for Asking, Ernest!
Jerod is doing great! On the outside you'd never know he had the surgery. As far as his hearing goes, we won't know anything definitive for over a year. After Jerod's 2nd surgery in May of 2001 to implant his prosthesis, Dr Benecke waited almost 18 months to have his first hearing test performed. The reason for that is to allow time for the ear drum to heal completely. Like the 2nd surgery the ear drum had to be totally reconstructed this time around & it's the key to the prosthesis working properly. So far everything looks fantastic & we'll know more as time goes on if his hearing will return to the levels he had previously.
I'd also like to insert here that Andrew Benecke had his surgery one week ago & the results were as good as can be expected. They were able to remove all the cancerous lesions from his lungs & he must undergo some more chemotherapy over the next few months. If you're so inclined, I'd like to ask for continued prayers for Andrew, Dr Benecke and his wife Barbara.
Thanks again for asking about this situation, Ernest.
