Addl Chg for ordering payoff?

On a deal I did last week I offered to assist her with ordering a payoff statement since she complained she is so overwhelmed. Do I charge her extra for the half-hour work I did prior to actual closing?

Thanks.

IMO, if you said you were going to charge then yes, but if you didn't specify that you were planning to charge for your efforts, then, no. Just my $0.02 (BTW, what ever happened to the cents key?)

" ¢ " Sign

You mean: >>> ¢ <<< ?

Hold down your [alt] key and at the same time, key in 0162

Old legal secretaries know these things.

If you want >>> § <<<<
You hold down your [alt] key + 21.

Brenda,

Giving yourself the benefit of the doubt, I think you really mean "former legal secretaries".

So what else can be accessed? Anything?

TED: "Giving yourself the benefit of the doubt, I think you really mean "former legal secretaries"."

NO! I mean OLD and MEAN. The kind of old legal secretaries that use to scare me when I was young and nice.

Just trying to gain a little REspect from the newbies...heh heh.

"So what else can be accessed? Anything?"

Yep. Lot's of nifty little symbols. Paul can probably give us some search terms to find them. You can also access them if you use MS Word through this:

With a document open, do ||Insert || Symbol || and a window with a group of symbols drops down.

Back in the 90's when I was a Young & Nice legal secretary, I had a chart that I used to create the symbols when I typed pleadings; or when I typed property descriptions in METES & BOUNDS. I was using WordPerfect back then.

My hat will always be off to the Metes & Bounds typist before the days of word processing.

Re: " ¢ " Sign

oh, that was me - I can type a deed description with minutes, seconds, radius, perches, thence along, through whatever, including chestnut grubs, rock piles, fence posts, whatever is needed - and I can fly through it with probably no errors - typing and moving that ruler at the same time is a true art form that has been lost by virtue of the new fangled "See Attached Exhibit A". I can also take the survey and from looking at the drawing type up all that jibberish, AND it will close when I'm finished if the surveyor has done his job correctly. I think 'old' is the key word here, not 'former'.

I don't think in the 20 years that I've been a legal secretary I've ever been referred to *Young* and *Nice*

Want to see what else you can get? Click on the START button, then RUN, type CHARMAP and press the enter key. If not already selected, use a common "base" font, like COURIER NEW, and for the Character Set, select Windows:Western. Left click (just once) on a symbol (that's not directly available from the keyboard) and notice the "keystroke" in the lower right corner. The numbers are entered from the number pad on the right side (normally) of the keyboard.

For example, the copyright symbol © is "Keystroke: Alt+0169"
The registered symbol ® is Alt+0174
The trade mark symbol ™ is Alt+0153
The pilcrow symbol ¶ is Alt+0182

Have fun

Brenda recollects:

***when I typed property descriptions in METES & BOUNDS***

I always thought "metes and bounds" referred to some sort of sado-masochistic perversions.

cool

the double s didn't work for me - I just tried it - I haven't been able to produce one of those since typing a Brief on an IBM Selectric and half rolling the paper

No § ??? Alt + 21 doesn't work???

Darn it!

I hope you can figure out how to get that back! I love that little sign.

If you are really partial to it, I think you can just copy it and paste it into a text file. I have done that before too, before I knew about the Alt + ___ trick.

Re: cool

You can get the whole CHARMAP by clicking on:
Start -->Search-->file/folder (charmap.exe)-->search in (C:\Windows). Once you found it, copy/paste to your desktop.

§=alt+0167

Re: cool

You can also find the 'Character Map' in XP by going to START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--CHARACTER MAP.

This is just on the regular XP. YMMV on XP Pro...

Lots of neat stuff in there though.

Kat

Brenda boasted "Old legal secretaries know these things."

In what context are you using the word old?

Judy,

In legal parlance, it seems to me that your actions and efforts would be characterized as those of "a volunteer". I agree with James' take on the situation. Plus the fact it was only half an hour. Maybe because of your good deed, she will send you a lot more work. You know "what goes around, comes around".
