Becoming a NSA
Can anyone tell me, I wanted to become a Notary Signing Agent, is it possible to get 3 signings a day? or avg. 15 a week. Can you make a good living being a signing agent? I know that they usually pay $100. to $125. a signing.

Your incorrect in thinking that in this area of Ft. Lauderdale that anyone usually pays $100 to $125 base per signing. The going rate is about half that amount for the whole county coverage!
This is a VERY HIGHLY saturated area for notaries, do a search for your zip code, you will see. Ft. Lauderdale zip 33311 there are 377 notaries!!
I have been doing this for a year and avg. 4 - 5 signings a week only, some weeks with just 1 or 2. Don't mean to dash your hopes but this is reality for this area. Mortgage Brokers are always in high demand for this area! BK/FL

I feel the same way BrendaKhan/FL, I hope that someone did not tell FT Lauderdale Notary that 3 signings a day would be possible, even within the first 2 or 3 years.
Sometimes I may be lucky to get 15 in one month. I have been doing it for 8 years and it took me a long time (years) to get the clients to even imagine to have that many. I have done as may as 30-40 in one month and that was in the summer of 2003 when the real estate market was so great.
That is why, notary after notary, tries to tell these new guys to first SEARCH the site and not quit their day job. I can't figure out why no one gets that message.

No one gets it because ...
The companies, individuals, and organizations selling NSA products (supplies, insurance, bonds), selling NSA certifications, and selling memberships always put the "sunny side" of the industry in their every expanding marketing and sales materials. .... interest rates are dropping, new home sales are up, construction is up ...
The title companies, lenders, mortgage brokers, and signing companies also promote the same "sunny side" .... the real estate industry is booming and will be better than last year marketing pitch (unless its to a borrower, in which case interest rates are rising and you must refinance now before it is too late). The more NSAs competing for limited work, the lower the fees the NSAs will work for before they must leave this industry to eat and pay the rent. The less the NSA is paid, the higher the profit margin for the lenders, title and signing companies.
Not dooming and glooming, but there is a method to this flood the market with as many competing NSAs as possible madness. Connecticut is the home of P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every day." We have the head of a two-headed calf at our Old State House if you are ever touring the neighborhood.

A tow-head is a blonde. Writers frequently refer to a "tow-headed boy." However, that phrase is banned in the newspaper business and no print journalist will use it. Why? It goes back to the days when typographers set all the type that went into the newspaper. If a reporter used the phrase, some sort of demon inevitably, every time, without exception, took over the typographer and the type would be set as -- you guessed it -- "two-headed boy."

Maybe this is the reason?
Loretta had the chutzpah to write:
"That is why, notary after notary, tries to tell these new guys to first SEARCH the site and not quit their day job. I can't figure out why no one gets that message. "
Gee, I don't know, could it be because people like you make the following comments when we do try to get people to do their own legwork and/or face the reality of the business? :
"There are a few arrogant people that like to put others down on here. We do have notary board police on this site."
"If you are not interested CaliNotary, don't respond. You have had quite a few unwanted responses lately."
"For once on this site, why don't you quit trying to babysit everybody and post when you have something nice or important that applies to the current post. "
Maybe if people on this board stopped spoonfeeding information to people who want to get rich quick in this business, and stopped criticizing those of us who have little patience for the people who can't even be bothered to read a single message on the board before begging for information on how to do what we're doing, well maybe, just maybe people might start to get the message.
And maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt.

"maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt"
Colorful image, Cali!
I love posts from you, Brenda, and Hugh. Especially when the imagery doesn't remotely resemble notary work.

You apparently are under a common misconception. Cali is not a notary. He is a proctologist, and thus is occasionally entitled to a sh*tty outlook.

My reason for living must be to irritate CaliNotary, because evidently I do. And I did see a blinded monkey come out of his butt. I think that there should be a link in bold red letters so when a notary comes on this site that is new that says, CLICK HERE FIRST TIME NOTARIES OR WANNA BE'S.

study the industry and try it. If big money is your motivating factor, this isn't the 'ship came in' job! (keep your day job) most signings start at $50. You can request more if your area is not saturated or you have built a good relationship with the Signing company, which will take many 100% accurate signings and a lot of time. Good luck

It sounds like you have been suckered in by the NNA.

Not everyone's experience with the NNA is bad. I have had nothing but good experiences with them... One lesson I learned early on when I first started is to take someone's personal opinion about a specific organization with a HUGE grain of salt... That being said, try to always rely on your OWN research and conclusions, as you have your best interest at heart...
