Brother HL-1440
Low cost, 15 ppm, PCL 4 compatible. Obviously laser.
Whats the difference between PCL 4 and PCL 6? would this cheap printer cause me to be unable to print out certain docs because its only PCL 4 instead of PCL 6?
Just looking for a cheap backup, and saw Office Depot had them for like $99 with a $30 rebate.

PCL 6 is the current version of the PCL languages and yes, some of the programs for printing docs will require PCL 5 or above. It is better to spend a little extra money to get a printer that will work for sure. The Brother HL5140 is PCL 6 compliant and I have never had a problem downloading and printing any docs. You can find them online for around $165 to $200. Sometimes you can get a rebate also.

I agree with Jon. I purchased the HL-5140 and haven't run into any problems either. Better to spend a little more now than to find out later there are docs you won't be able to print on the 1440 model.

I purchased the Hl1440, it worked fine for 2 years then quit. It wasn't expensive enought to repair, but had to buy a better printer. HP is the best and if you wait a good deal will come around.

I have one of these that I bought about 2 months ago. I have probably done about 20 signings with it and have had no problems. Also, you can buy your TN-460 toner cartridges on Ebay for about half of what you would pay at Staples or Office Max. I bought mine at Staples, it had a $30 rebate and I got it in about 10 days!
