Connecting to the Internet

I just recently got a cable modem and still have my dial up til this Friday. Turns out my cable modem went out this morning and they can't get out to fix it until tomorrow. Thank god I still have the dial up for now. Has anyone experienced this problem? What do you do if you can't get online?

You are doing the right thing by keeping a dial up account - you might want to extend pastl Friday.

I use Netzero.com for 10 hours per month for free when I am out of town.

Netzero still has free usage? I thought you had to pay for them.

We just got the high speed internet up here in the woods where I live. When they announced it I jumped right on it. The dialup here is really bad and don't want to pay for the dialup if I don't have to because it is expensive. I'll check out Netzero.

Yep, I used it at Christmass to dial up for Free. Ten hours per month is all allowed with the free account, as best I can tell.

My parents had PCPeople through AARP which gave them fits. However, we set them up with NetZero and it's been great for them.

For $9.95 a year, you can get 1 GB email account.

Look for the link where it says: "NetZero Internet Service - Sign up for NetZero Platinum, HiSpeed or Free Internet Access today!"

My Backup Is...

...my laptop. I keep a mirror image of the data on my business desktop on my laptop. In the event of a DSL modem failure, an ISP problem, or a power outage I can pick up & go to the nearest St Louis Bread Company (there's one located 2 miles from my office) who offer free WI-FI access. I can sit in the comfort of their store (smelling the pastries all the while & maybe partaking of a few) & conduct business on the Internet like I'm sitting in my office. I had a chance this past summer to gain first hand experience when we had a local power outage that lasted from Monday to Wednesday.

Re: My Backup Is...

I do that too. Starbucks and Panara Bread all have free wireless and they are everywhere. Even Krystal has wireless now and McDonald's is working on it. I have 24/7 wireless internet on my laptop for $20.00 a month through T-mobile because I am already an exsisting cell phone customer. I also had a 3000 watt power inverter installed in my car prior to the hurricanes and put a all in one laser printer with dual trays in the back of my SUV. I can print documents from my car. I can receive faxes through efax. It also has a flatbed scanner so I can make copies of ID. I love it. When the power was out for 2 weeks I never lost a signing job due to no power or internet. When I am doing property inspections I go to starbucks to download my photos because their wireless highspeed internet is faster than mine for downloading. I just sit there and drink my Mocha outside in the sunshine.

Re: My Backup Is...

I have had cable modem for 4 years and I have never had a problem. Of course now that I said this I will....HAHA! I guess I will have to look into NetZero or some other service, just in case.
