Continental Signing Services
Has anyone else received an efax from this company recruiting signing agents??? They are located in Folsom Ca. The recruiter's name is Bart Manning. The fax said he found my name on the internet, and of course wants copies of SS card. Drivers license (not going to happen) and the usual other stuff. Oh, and it has to be faxed back after 5:30 pm or on the weekend. They do have a website, just curious if anyone has worked for them.

Hi Bonnie, Thanks for your interest. Thought maybe I could help answer some of your questions, not only for your benefit, but for the benefit of others on this board, as well. 1. We don't ask for copies of drivers licenses or Social Security cards in our recruiting literature. Drivers licenses are not addressed in any way. We will, if you are offered a contract, ask for your SS number on a W-9, as do all companies. 2. We do ask for a copy of your commission, bond, and E&O, if applicable. As a reputable and responsible company, we want to make sure that all notaries in our database are in compliance with their state laws. Particularly in CA, because it now it taking such a long time to renew commissions due to the overwhelming influx of new notaries. Please don't be offended, no implication is being made that notaries would not follow the law. Also, some, but not all, of our clients require that we sign contracts with them stating that we will use only notaries that have"unsuspended, unrevoked" commissions, and that we retain that information on file in our offices. Not an unreasonable request, so of course we comply. 3. We do ask that recruiting responses/contracts, etc. be faxed back after 5:30 or on a week-end because our faxes are so busy during office hours, and of course, our first priority is orders in and orders out. 4. If you have any questions, our phone number is on the literature, please feel free to call us, any member of our staff will happily address any issues or concerns you may have, as well as provide references to you with SA/Notaries with whom we have done business for a number of years. Hope this has helped you. Thanks again.

I assume that you would accept SSN -or- EIN on a W-9.
One statement rather baffled me; you said, "... we want to make sure that all notaries in our database are in compliance with their state laws." So, am I to assume that you know all the laws of each state pertaining to bonding and E&O coverage? If a state does not require a bond or E&O and the notary does not have it/them, are they allowed to register? Not trying to be difficult, but, for the membership here, just trying to be sure we completely understand your requirements.

Yes, we do have books which tell us the requirements for each state. If a given state does not require a bond, and the notary does not have a bond, that notary is not in violation, and of course would be welcome. All other things being equal, though, and given a choice, we will use a notary with a bond over one without. Bonds are cheap, and some may say, displays professionalism. It is in some ways an matter of semantics. We have never had to file a claim against a notary's bond, and hopefully, never will. As I said, bonds are cheap, offer some peace of mind, and even when not required, makes you look good, and we look good. The name of the game for Signing Services, as well as Signing Agents is CYA! JMHO

just me being technical but your company wouldn't be able to file a claim against my bond. the person I 'harm' is the one who makes the claim, not a third party. Knocking on wood over here because that is just my 'general' knowledge, not 'first hand' knowledge.

Sorry, I completely skipped your first question. That would be yes, we do accept a SSN or EIN on the W-9. BTW, didn't think you were trying to be difficult, we don't mind questions. That's how we all learn.

Bart, your website asks for a copy of the drivers license and SS card, thats why I questioned it. I'm glad that you don't require it.
