DL's/SSN#'s requested by Company's
I know starting out that there is a lot of companys which require DL's,SSN#s etc, and it probably goes with the territory of getting new business as a rookie & veteran. I suppose I may be a little gun shy about giving out this personal info. So, am I one of the many who is concerned when signing up with these companies &/or should I aproach this differently.

You can get an EIN from the IRS to use instead of your SS#. Send your DL with the number black-out. I once called the IRS hotline for a question and the rep highly recommend that one should use an EIN when self-employed.
You can get the EIN online at http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html

An EIN is best (you do not have to have any employees to get one). It's a quick, simple process and you don't then have to give out your SSN to companies. You have to provide either an EIN or your SSN on a W-9 form for any company you sign for.

Thanks People. I have tried to fill out apllications online and they did not take because I entered my EIN number instead. I then painfully entered my SSN #. I hope I dony get burned later.

But how do you file your taxes later? With your SS or with the EIN?

I had the same problem with an app. for one of the ss. I just fitted my E.I.N # in the spaces where the Soc. Security # would go. If u are filling out income tax forms for other people then u should use your E.I.N #, other wise I would think you would use your SS#.
