Fax Machine recommendations - need feedback

Hello all.

I am in need of a fax machine for my home office, to fax back signed/notarized docs and receive work orders primarily. I am searching for a relatively low volume, but high quality machine and simply have no idea where to start. My husband and I purchased a fax machine about a year and a half ago from Costco, which turned out to be the worst kind of junk and a very aggravating experience.

If anyone has a suggestion for a reliable machine under $300.00, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Kathryn

I just bought a Sharp UX-B700 and am happy so far. It was only 100.00 at OfficeMax but I have had no complaints yet. I use it daily so it does get a pretty good work out.

I bought an HP 920 stand alone fax machine (which also does copies), about 5 years ago for $250. It is a great machine and I never had any problems with it.

I just bought one for my brother who is also in this business. Just some things to consider: I found in my search some fax machines will automatically feed 10 pages, 20 pages, 30 pages, and 50 pages. In this business with all the fax backs, you definitely do not want to get a fax that only accepts 10 pages, thus requiring you to split your faxbacks.

Do you have a copy machine? If not, you might want to consider an HP 3015 Multifunction. You can get this for about $300 and there's usually a gift card or rebate available at the office supply stores. It would be a great back up for your regular laser printer that you use for edocs because this machine is pcl @ 15 pages per minute. I use my regular machine to print the lender docs and use my multifunction to copy and print the title docs. Gets me out of the office in record time and I am comfortable knowing I have a good back up in case I run out of toner for my regular machine or there is a breakdown.

The fax I purchased for my brother was a Brother Intellifax 2800 laser fax for about $200. There were 2 rebates totaling $50 and a $25 office max gift card bringing it to a very reasonable price. Faxes at about 15 pages per minute with memory to hold faxes should you be out & run out of paper or jam. If I remember, I think it fed 30 pages at a time. You can use it as a back up copier too.

My incoming faxes come in on Maxemail, so I just print those up on my laser printer. Maxemail cost $14.85/year for 500 incoming pages per month. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap to print on your regular laser printer. Fax ink or film can be VERY expensive.

Just some things to think about.
