Free Email - any delays?

Does anyone here use free mailboxes like Hotmail or Yahoo? Do you experience any delay in receiving large files? I'm trying to decide if I should forward my mail from roadrunner to Yahoo. My road runner mailbox capacity is only 10mb, yahoo offers 250mb. Right now, I'm using my emai client to download emails every 10mins. so that the server will not reach max capacity and bounce emails back when I receive large files. However, in doing this, I cannot retrieve emails when I am away from my home PC.

Wondering what others do.

I used to have Netscape. Had some problems with downloads. Switched to Yahoo six months ago. Have never had any problems downloading any docs since.

I have a comcast mailbox for both docs & maxemail efax that I have forwarded to my yahoo account just for the purpose of picking it up on the road. Yahoo will also instant message your cell phone when an email is received with the subject line and first few words. Enought to let you know what you've received & who it's from.

Even though it's forwarded from Comcast to yahoo, I still receive a copy in my MS Outlook and most of the time it hits Yahoo before Outlook.

I have the $20 year Yahoo

Yahoo is one of the best out there right now. Ever since they increased to 250mb I've had no problem at all.

Yahoo is great.
I use my same name for both Yahoo & Hotmail Joanbergst@)email address and I think it cost me around $30 a year for both of these email addresses with huge amount of space!
The only reason I mention the 2 email addresses is I have loan docs sent to both addresses and occasionaly the docs have trouble getting through to Hotmail so I have the backup at Yahoo.
In fact I am in the process of changing all of my web advertising to the Yahoo email address because Hotmail is bouncing back many emails that cannot be delivered and I had a situation where an efax took 5 days to hit this address.

I ended up purchasing an email address from notary depot last week. I figure that way, its still cheap, but I get plenty of space, 100 megs, and have something that appears more professional to employers. Havent had any problems with file size. I set it up in Microsoft Outlook. The webmail is OK but not as elaborate as say a yahoo webmail interface, so I would say if you choose it, use Outlook or another email program. Its also nice to have a more personalized email address. I went from [e-mail address] to [e-mail address], so Im very happy. At the time I bought it, the process was automated. I checked back and it looks like you have to contact them first now. Anywho just my two cents.

thanks all. I think the Yahoo with 2gb is great...and with the cell phone notification is awesome.

IF you are going to do the cell phone notification, make sure you can purchase instant messaging in your cell phone package. I pay $7/mo for 500 instant messages. My daughter gets 100 for $3/mo. Costs about 25 cents each if you don't have it on your package.

Do you mean text messaging? What has instant messaging have to do with email notification? I do get unlimited text messaging on my phone included in my monthly fee with Sprint.

You are right, text messaging is what I am talking about. Good thing my kids didn't catch me switching it up. They would waste no time in pointing out how "old" I am that I didn't know the difference between text & instant messages. :-)

I agree with you Brian. I think that using a free email address gives a less professional appearance. I have no idea if signing services or title companies feel that way, but that's my personal opinion.

If I were running a company and saw somebody's contact info with a hotmail address and an efax area code that didn't match their phone number, the first thing I would think is that they were a new signing agent doing things on the cheap.

I think it's worth spending a few extra bucks a year to look like a professional, even on things as insignificant as an email address.

My cable broadband provider is so cheap. They only give me 10mb of space for email. So I decided to use Yahoo to download all my POP3 emails. At first, I was having Outlook download all my mail and delete it from the server automatically. But now I use Yahoo. This way, I free up my main server and still can retrieve my mails on the road...and still use my road runner email address.

I don't know if you have a website, but I can set up 200 e-mail accounts and have 1000mb storage included with my package. I can access my e-mail at home or on the road. I do have a hotmail account, but rarely use it.

very much so, hotmail does have a limit on files, and you will not get many of them. on roadrunner, I have not had this happen. I never have tried yahoo.
