HP 3015 or Brother 5150??????????

I have done lots of research and have read this forum's past discussion on which laser printer to buy. The Brother seems to have a faster ppm and a higher dpi but is this needed??? I am concerned from reading here that maybe the Brother would not support some loan docs?????????
I am ready to buy and have found both these models for the same price of around $300. Sooooooo.........which one does the job best for loan docs?????? I want to offer edocs. Thanks for your advice in advance ! Marla

DPI is basically immaterial for our purposes. The LOWER the dpi, the faster some documents (images) will print. Since we're not printing graphical material or photographs, this is not a needed feature.

HP developed and owns PCL. Only HP printers **natively** support PCL, all others use emulators. If you have an HP Laserjet and the proper PCL driver, you cannot be faulted.

All other things being equal, I would go with the HP simply because of the PCL issue. I've not seen personally any problems with other printers, only have heard of some problems with a few particular files. But, IMO, why take the chance.

I have a Brother HL-5140 and am very pleased with it. I accept all types of E-Docs and have not had an issues printing them with this printer.

The better Brother printers do have the PCL 6 for DOS printing programed into them, which I believe the model 5150 has as well.

I personally dislike HP products therefore I would recommend Brother or any other brand! BK-FL

I agree. I recently purchased the 5150DLT (comes with the 2nd tray) and it is much faster than any of the HP laser printers that I have used in the past. I based my decision off of what I read from these forums also and I would defintely go with Brother.

Good luck.

The HP 3015 prints fast enough. You also need to consider the cost of the toner/per page. HP printers uses refills without any problems. You can refill each cartridge about 4 times before having to buy a new one. Refill toners for the HP 3015 is about $15 for two bottles - good for 4 refills. I've been told the Brother doesn't always "take" refills well.

If you are Sam's Club member - the HP 3015 there is $278

My Brother HL-5140 is simple to refill with toner, did not even require any drilling of a hole, just pull out the plug, fill and replug. Yes I can also get 4 or more refills on mine before I need a new drum as well.
And if we want to compare costs, Brother is more economical than HP on most things.

I have just had too many issues with refills and programs with any HP products I have ever used so I found that by my extra effort to avoid HP products makes my life a lot easier! BK-FL

I also have a brother 5140 and have not had any problems with it. So far iI have refilled it 3 times, and things are fine with it. By the way for those of you with the brother 5140, where do you purchase your refill toner and empty cartridges?
