Inspections
On the profile page, we are asked if we do inspections. What is that? I've been a notary signing agent for a couple years and have never run across this question before.

I believe they mean doing home inspections and you have to have a license to do that.

no, they're talking about 'field inspections'. You work for mainly for insurance companies & lenders doing some type basic inspection of the property. Some companies require more detail than others such as drawings & measurements, most require digital photos. Society of Field Inspectors is the site to check this out at. Fees are VERY low compared to signings - maybe $7-$15, depending on what you're doing. You make your money on these with volume.

They also have home inspectors that the buyers can hire to inspect a home before buying it.

I do home inspections and they pay $65.00 each require up to 20 photos. These properties are vacant HUD foreclosures and I am sent a master key that fits all the doors. Commerical inspections pay more and can be a gas station to a shopping center where you have to inspection each store in the shopping center. They depend on the project and whether it is a rush. You receive your assignments and have usually 10 days to complete. Drive-by inspections which only require 3 photos and description of the property pay $25.00. You need to sign up with SOFI www.sofi.us and get your profile on it. Order the directory and sign up with companies just like you do with the signing companies. I work all the time and do these in between my loan signings.

Margaret I am very interested in doing home inspections too. But how would you recommend someone educate themselves in this field so that they would perform the job the way that the companies are expecting them to? I know a lot about the building and real estate industry and this could be just one more extension to it. I want to do this right and I could really use some guidance in getting started, any help would be greatly appreciated. You may email me direct at [e-mail address]. Thanks so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Kris H
