Me, I'm meeting someone for coffee. My first foray into the singles life in years and years. I'm a little out of date, so maybe somebody better tell me: Does she pull out my chair for me to rise before or after she picks up the check?

And I'm listening to Andy Griffith belt out old Baptist hymns on the stereo. Unitarians have the world's lousiest sacred music, so it's really pleasant to hark back to my childhood. At my age, that's one helluva long hark.

So your birthday is universally celebrated? The only possibilties that occur to me are New Year's Day or one of the equinoxes -- specifically, spring, since the fall equinox tends to be bemoaned rather than celebrated.
