PT signing agents

How many of you out there do this as a PT side business? I work FT for an attorney and generally conduct my closings in the evenings or sometimes on Saturdays.

Mary, I work part time at this but because of my other job I can do this pretty much 24/7 if necessary. I would love to do this full time if it was dependable and predictable.......

I also work evenings and weekends and get very little business. Maybe four or five signings a month max. It is still worth it though. I find the clients more relaxed and patient. You have more time for document review.
The hard part is building your client list. Who to contact, who to sign with, and how much money you are willing to spend.

Best of luck.

John

I am also part time. I work for a title company during the day and do closings in the evenings and weekends. My boss knows that I do these closings and when we aren't busy, she'll let me take off to go do one. It works out great!

I do this part-time also. This is just something to pad my income. I don't want to take over 10 signings a month and that is why I limit my marketing, but the non-loan notarizations are what I get called for more than the Loan signings. Either way, it is not something I would want to depend on based on the slowness of the payments from companies.

I do this partime. And my business finally picked up last month. My goal is to do 15-20 signings a month. With my full time job I find that with at least 24-hour notice I am able to do signings anytime during the day. I actually have most of my signings in the evenings though so it works out great for me. I think the most time consuming aspect of this kind of work is building up the clientle since every area is different and marketing techniques hae to cater to the area. Overall I love doing it, because the extra income definitely is better than having a parttime job anywhere else.

I'm also a Part Timer. I usually take between 7-10 signings a month and turn a few down. I just want the extra income and agree that it's the best part-time job I've ever found!

I too am part-time but would like to do it full-time along with my other business. I also work a JOB(just over broke) that's why I do thisSmiley

I average about 12-15 a month and make pretty decent income. If I could do this full-time, I would. It's just around the corner. I'm marketing more and more and getting more calls within the last 3 months.

I agree - it beats working PT at a department store.

In N.CA, I work PT and have a FT job. I complete appr 25 signings a month and this seems to increase each month since I've started 5 months ago. I'm allowed to leave work for appts (for now, my workplace does not know what I do on my appts). Although I have signed up with over 200 companies, I've contacted and confirmed with 125 of these companies that I am on their list. I feel that marketing and error-free signings are keys to the success of this business. Marketing is time-consuming but I try to commit at least 30 minutes a work day to do this. I am a proud premium member of Notary Rotary and a proud member of The Signing Registry.

I am a 24/7 notary public/signing agent. However, I find that my monthly payments add up to part-time work. I have back up monies to keep me afloat. I believe the reason for this is the complete saturation of notaries public in the Bay Area in CA.

Same here. Extra income pays for children's college expenses, car insurance and "unexpected" car repairs. Real estate industry has too many ups and downs for me to go back to it full time and give up steady, reliable, taxes already deducted, pay check. Also, great deal of competition for ever decreasing work.

Just wondering how you are becoming full time and how do you know how many signings you will be doing? I've been doing this for 6 months PT but just lost my day job. Would like to get more business, myself. I am printing off flyers to send to local and semi-local title companies now. I live in a rural area. Not much competition, and the signings I get pay anywhere from $65 to $225 because of travel time. Just don't get many calls, usually about 8 a month.

Re: Toney Sanders

I took work a FT job and have been doing this PT in the evenings for about 7 months. I find a lot of agencies call me to do signings during the day and I tell them that I am only available in the evenings or weekends and they try to accomodate my schedule. There aren't many notaries in my area so I am usually lucky enough to have them change the appts. to the evenings. I generally average about 2 closings per week. My fee generally runs anywhere from $50 - $150 per closing depending on the distance. I had a company call me yesterday to do a closing in the town I live in. They told me they pay $50 and I usually ask them if there is any faxing involved. This person said no but when I got the confirmation they said I would have to fax papers back. I emailed them back and said that I charge a faxing fee. Does anyone else charge extra for faxing docs back?

This is part time for me. It's to supplement my full time job now and my retirement when the time comes. I love the flexibility.

I work at this business part time in the evenings and weekends. Occasionally I will take a signing during my lunch hour if it is in close proximity to my job. My husband was doing this almost full time while he was unemployed. He has gone back to work now and we maintain a couple of signings a month as extra income. He would like to go back to it - the reality of working for yourself is a wonderful concept. Great flexible hours and being able to work as much or as little as you like.

I love this work it gets me out of the house. I'm disabled and suppliment my Social Security, this way. My husband sometimes has to drive me but thats ok. I also travel with my companion dog. He stays in the car while I'm in the house.

Funny thing happened one day, I had a kitten climbb into my brief case and almost took it home!!!

I'm a full-time Signing Agent and has been for 6 years now , I do 30 to 40 closing a month in the spring it will be more, my base fee is $75.00 for my home county I don't have a problem with getting my fee once I tell the company how long I've been in business and I'm full-time, I won't work for new companies starting out they normally are slow pay or no-pay , I do work with 2 companies that are my primary companies frist then depending on my month i will expect order from other companies.
