Printer Toner Problem

I bought a HP3030 in Nov. I wasn't really sure how long the ink would last with the one that came with it so I bought a back-up. The other night while printing out documents I ran out of ink in the original so I put my back-up in. It was no good. I went to Office Depot this morning and took both cartridges and told them what happened and they told me that it had been longer then 14 days so they could'nt do anything about the new cartridge. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. So I just threw $70.00 away.

I also have the 3030 and always keep a spare. I just put in the spare that has been on my shelf since the end of November and have no problems. I think I'd probably go back to Staples and insist they make good since its obviously a bad toner cartridge. Good luck, Dotti

Hope it doesn't sound dumb, you have done it, but some newbies do forget toners usually require you shake them around for a while before using. Usually of course.

You can also shake them when print becomes light. Works for 20 or so more pages. Dotti

Might be a dumb question, but did you pull the tab on the new one?

When I first bought my printer from Office Depot they told me the toner cartridges that come with the machines typically only have a smaller amount of toner in them. That may account for your running out, but not for the new cartridge being empty. Good luck!

yes, I did shake it and then when it didn't work I took it out and shook it again. Oh well. Thats my luck. BTW I have really enjoyed reading the message boards. I have learned a lot. Thanks everyone for your help.

I wouldn't throw that toner away. I had the same problem with one I purchased and the manufacturer sent me a new one. Call HP and tell them. Don't throw it away.
