Yes. In this day and age, companies are using these sites more and more to guarantee reliable notaries. Over $50 a year is too much.

You, who told us that we're backstabbing each other and undercutting fees are now recommending that we pay to register with signing services? You just threw any creditiblity you might have had right out the window.

CaliNotary...relax and enjoy!
What does signing up with a signing service have to do with backstabbing? I do not understand your attack?! Signing services pay one fee, usually $50-100. I used to get $50 + $25 for e-docs. One year later, same companies, I get $100 + 25 for e-docs and they call me first. The company knows when they really need a dependable Notary, they can call me AND I do a great job. I am also not concerned with your need to think I am credible. I don't understand your problem. You seem to pride yourself on negativity. Relax!

Lori, pick a screenname and stick with it. Much less confusing for all of us.

I am confused- your remark for signing with a company with a fee?? are you meaning a specific company or a notary listing or kind of a want ad arrangement. there is a difference.
I have been doing mobile signings for some years and none of the title companies I work for charge a fee (I grant that on some docs the notary fee charged on the docs is more than I make but...). I am listed on a number of 'want ads' sites. 123 notary, roatary notary- just two of many available. I am listed on several of them. It pays off for referrals. I have had several dozen 'cold calls', the person calls me, mentions a list I am on, can I handle a signing, place, time, date. A good part of my business comes from repeat business from those companies. it may also a possible tax write off depending on your situation.

NOPE! I have signed up and paid with some SS companies...
to be listed in their database, so far no income. Don't be fooled! The only ones I would suggest listing with, would be 123Notary.com and NotaryRotary.com. These are not Signing Services, but rather the directories that list member notaries all over the US.
Do not waste your money with the SS services "directory wannabe's" who asks you to pay to get assignments through them...it will never happen. I have pais at least six of them...did not receive even one order. My orders generally comes from the companies that I have signed up with, NotaryRotary.com and 123Notary.com.

www.themobilenotary.com. I pay $35 a year. I got my start here and now have 10 title companies I work with. Think like a title company and where would you go? All my companies got me from there. They also feel if people are willing to pay, then they must be serious about a career! So, I guess it all depends on how you look at it and what you put in your profile! Make it good! All they do is READ! They read this too so if people are negative, they won't use them! Lori

Lori, Read the original post and know the difference....
She was inquiring about paying the signing companies to get listed...not to be listed in a directory like themobilenotary.com, 123notary.com and notaryrotary.com. There is a difference between paying the signing company to get a job from them and being listed in a directory so that everyone can access your information and work with you directly. If you are reading the original post, the posted mentioned paying to be listed with the Signing company to get a job through them...not Directories.
Not signing with the SS directory wannabe's is not being negative. My experience with them has been just a waste of money, so I am speaking based on experience only. Why waste your money there when thousands of companies can access you from directories.
TheMobileNotary.com is a directory....not a SS website where you pay to get work through them. This is much like NotaryRotary and 123Notary. Lori, I am signed up with them too! I think that it is a wise business move to go that route than to do the route as the original poster had inquired.. I hope that you understand the point that I am trying to get across.
I am doing very well and as it is, 95% of my signings are with lender and title companies and all of them found me from directories that I have mentioned.
As far as being worried about the people reading our posts here, anyone who had a chance of working with me knows the quality of my work and comes back more for it. I am not worried one bit.

Glena...thank you
I never heard of paying a signing company... is this new? Sorry if I confused it. There must be alot of people out there acting like services and I could only imagine their attempt to get people's hard, earned money. As to 'themobilenotary.com', it is a wise business move... Kudos to you! Lori

You are welcome! No, it is not new...but they do exist.
I have tried three of those when I started two years ago. Non of them gave me any business. I can probably name a couple. They ask you for $35...it seems cheap, but if you are getting no business, it can cost you.
You have my way of thnking. I can see why you are successful. Several Title companies found me there too. I just forgot about that directory until you mentioned it. Kudos to you too, Lori!

Correction, six companies I paid to be listed with...
Actually, looking at the invoices...I spent over $150 (6 SS companies) to be listed with them and no business. They know who they are...they will never benefit from me again. What a waste.

Re: NOPE! I have signed up and paid with some SS companies...
You keep using the word negative. I don't know what your definition of the word is, but when we tell newbies (sorry, Hugh I keep using that word) to read all the threads/messages from the beginning and then ask their question, or when we tell them to do a SEARCH before asking their question because 99% of the time their question has already been answered, or when we tell them they are in over their head and need to get some training, a menot, or to read more posts, we are not being negative and we are not being rude -- we are being honest and truthful. However, if you are turning around and pumping these people up and telling them they can do this without any problem, even if they have never been a notary and don't know their state notary laws, and know nothing about loan documents, you are doing as a big a disservice as the NNA who promised them $125 or more a signing. Since the first of the year and all the new faces here, NNA must have really been pumping up the registrants and their seminars at the end of 2004.

Carolyn, your statement:
"NNA must have really been pumping up the registrants and their seminars at the end of 2004." made me remember that the NNA called today. I started another thread.

Could not have said it better myself. I have only paid for two. No more. My observation is that it is a means to finance the owners' marketing efforts.
My own website, NotRot, 123Notary, and SigningAgent.com generate the leads that I do not personally generate.

Yes. I am pretty sure one of the emails I sent awhile back touched on this. I prefer to not post who or what in specifics, but I have gained four quality clients over the past year from the SR.
