Timing Appointments

I've never had much trouble with apts. going past and hours except once in a while. I have scheduled ample time for the signing plus driving time with a cush.

I am finding recently I can not depend on docs arriving to the borrower on time and signings are taking longer than the hour or so.

I take pride in being ON TIME and prepared. I feel as though recently things are taking longer. I have had to call a borrower or two to push my next apt. which is really bothering me.

Would love to hear any suggestions that have worked with your scheduling.

Thank you, Lori Smiley

I don't mean this to sound as smart alecky is it does, but what works for me is to accept the fact that scheduling snags are going to happen. I do the best I can to schedule things appropriately but sometimes things happen to screw it up that are beyond my control. And when that happens, I call the borrowers, explain what happened and push back the appointment. They live, I live, things eventually get done, minimal stress on my part.

I found it best to let the borrower know the nature of our business at first contact. I've been late more than being on time.

As soon as I get an E-doc signing confirmation, I call the borrower and during the call, tell them that the docs are coming by e-mail and I don't know exactly when. I tell them I will confirm the time when I have the docs (printed and ready to go). Usually they are very understanding.

Here in Los Angeles County being on time every time is often impossible! Even when you allow enough time between appointments! Most appointments I get are during the highest peak of traffic hours! Unless they are right around the corner it can often times get really tough! I stress a lot about that but I find that most borrowers are very patient and ask me to take my time as they are worried about "my" safety! And "yes" I do call them to let them know the status.

I agree, there's just no way to be that accurate during evening appointments in Los Angeles. I'm actually surprised that I'm as punctual as I am to most of my appointments considering what is sometimes involved in getting there.

What seems to work for me is giving them a half-hour window, e.g. 7:00 - 7:30. I also ask if they would like for me to call them when I'm on my way. I, too, explain some of the "out of my control" circumstances, like waiting for docs. Also, I find that most people understand the difficulties of dealing with traffic in Southern California.
