Virginia Title Settlement Agent

Can someone please guide me as to the steps to take to become a Title Settlement Agent in the Commonwealth of Virgina. I appear to be web page challenged when it comes to figuring out the necessary steps.

I am looking to become one of these because it is my understanding that signings by notaries in Maryland is a big no no unless the notary also has a Maryland Title Producers License which can reciprocate from Virginia.

I am a Virginia resident, a Maryland non-resident.

You need to take the underwriters test. It is pretty easy if you have been in the business a while. I think the web site is www.experioronline.com
You can register for your test and pay for it and schedule on line. You get 2 hours to take the test. There isn't really any study material but there is an outline of topics covered in the test which I found helpful.
Once you pass your test, you need to send to the state police for a criminal background check which takes 3 weeks to get back ($15). Once you have that then you send to the insurance bureau for your license. After you get that back then you can get appointed by the insurance companies. Let me know if you need any contacts there.
Hope that helped.
