credible witnesses
In the state of Missouri, for real estate transactions, are two credible witnesses required or can proper ID from the borrower be accepted? I have heard conflicting viewpoints from supposedly reliable sources. Can anybody help?
Thanks

Okay, I'm showing my age but the saying is applicable.
"Why don't you let your fingers do the walking"
Call your secretary of state. Not to be rude but I simply don't understand why a lot you want to be hand fed the answers when you can find the answers yourselves. These days we have so many different venues to obtain information, ie., telephone, internet, and last but not least our handbook. As I tell my children there is now a LAZY generation out there but they will not be one of them. Example, they ask me how to spell something and my reply is always, sound it out and look it up in the dictionary to double check your spelling!
I'm sure I will get blasted but really folks, read, read and read again.

Not to be rude back, but I did call the secretary of state and received two different opinions. I guess I am looking for how it is actually practiced in the field. I also thought that the purpose of this chat room was to work together. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I don't think you need to apologize. I find that there are some on this board that are full of themselves to say the least.. To me, there are NO stupid questions only stupid answers and some of the people on here prove that over and over and over... In California valid ID is acceptable, but as you know things are different everywhere you go.. I am more than glad to answer your questions or try anyway.

No Notary Girl, there are some stupid questions. A notary who asks what the difference is between an acknowledgement and a jurat? Stupid question.
I love that you come in here and talk about other people being rude, yet I've seen nothing but rude comments from you pertaining to the rest of the board members. Bitches in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

That is so sad that you have to use language like that (bitches) when you are supposed to be so professional. Yes, I am anonymous because I'm afraid what you will call me. This all needs to stop

Who said I'm supposed to be professional when posting on this board? I'm professional when I'm conducting my business, this board is recreational.
I'm also professional enough to know what are acceptable identification procedures in my state. I'm also professional enough to know where to find answers pertaining to notary law without having to have somebody point me to my state's notary manual.
But if you want to go into puritanical mode and be aghast at the word bitch (a word that even Dr. Laura uses on her show on occasion) go right ahead. But since I haven't seen a string of bitchy posts from you like I have seen from Notary Girl, I would have no reason to call you a bitch.

Isn't there a notary handbook for your state? Proper identification procedures must be discussed in there. Whatever it says, there's your answer.

I've said on this and other boards the only dumb question is the one that didn't get asked. However, I was taught a long time ago by a very smart person to thoroughly do my research before I asked the question. Unfortunately, I find many questions on these boards where the person seems not to have done the research. In this case however, it appears the poster did ask the question of his/her SOS and received conflicting answers. Maybe we should all show just a bit of compassion and not be so quick to judge.
