just wondering
Have you ever encountered a fake ID or unwilling signer and had to refuse notorizing docs?
Have you ever done a signing where you ~wish~ you could have refused (followed by a hasty exit)?
I can't imagine either of these happening frequently, but just wondering ...

Follow your gut instinct and remember, generally, you can get into a whole lot more 'trouble' notarizing something than by refusing to do so.

In all honesty I don't think many notaries could spot a fake idea if they were presented with a 99 fakes ones and 1 real one. Most notaries that I've seen, simply grab it, copy it, accept that the copy they get at the closing is legit, or they jot down the information on a form...and go from there.
Any graphics editor program could scan a real Idea, and change the information on it, then print it out on a standard printer...and walla...you are someone else.
Scary....

Fake IDs: Experiences & Opinions?
Years ago (pre-notary days!) I watched someone type a (fake?) SSN onto a fake SS card. I warned the typer it was an illegal act, and also stated that the card wouldn't fool anyone.
Have people here had fake IDs presented to them; if so what did you do about it?
Have people here bought any books / courses on detecting fake IDs? If so, which have you found most useful?
TIA!

Re: Fake IDs: Experiences & Opinions?
I wouldn't take any course on identifying fake ID. If you do, then if something does come up, they could say "..you studied this stuff but failed to spot it -- you didn't use your full knowledge correctly..your at fault" This verses "so you used you best knowledge to examine the ID and did not spot it as a fake" you are in the clear

Thanks, Art! That would not have entered my mind!
