registering on notary sites

Do most of you list information like your commision #, DL #, etc. on these sites when they ask for it? I even have seen some that ask for a copy of your seal. That is illegal to afix your seal to anything else other than a document you are notarizing.

I have no problem giving my commission #, and/or DL # when asked for it. I think these are items used simply to prove that you are a commissioned Notary, and that you have a valid drivers license. I imagine the DL, they simply use to prove that you are legally able to drive. What company would want you to be driving on a non-valid license? With their docs? So I have no problem with that.

As for the seal, I've not come across a company that asks for a copy of the seal, but this could be state specific? I think different states require different things on the seal/stamp.... however; I could be wrong on this, so maybe someone else can address it as well?

I dont have a problem giving the information to them. When they ask for a copy of my seal I send them a copy of my Bond, it has my seal plastered all over it.

I have prepared a master photocopy of my D/L, SS card, and stamp. I drew a line accross each one and wrote "void" over it. One company I registered with asked me to do that and I used the same copy to send to the other companies.

Good idea.

Not a good idea. Identity theft is the #1 white collar crime today... and a real pain to fix.
Black out your D.L. number; send 'em a W9, not your SS Card--or, better yet, get an EIN; depending on your state's law, you could send a copy of your seal with VOID splatted across it. The company may be the best in the country, but who knows what will happen if they get a 'disgruntled employee' with access to absolutely everything. Be careful out there, please.

I could say the same about employees at IRS, the banks, the hospitals, HR personnels, credit card companies, anywhere and everywhere you use your ID and SS. You ought to be careful who you give your personal information to, at the same time, don't be paranoid!

You are absolutely right about that, too, Anon. Be careful out there.
