All purpose Acknowledgement
Hi - I have a quick question. I need to notarize a signature on a letter. I'm using the California All-Purpose Certificate of Acknowledgement. My question is for the identification part. I selected 'proved to me on the basis of satisfactory evidence' 'form of identification'. Next to it, do I just state California Drivers License or do I actually put in the DL number as I did in my journal?
This is my first notorial act, so I'm a bit nervous.
thanks - denyse

You can put the number if desired, but, the American Society of Notaries has just posted an update recommending not to put the actual number on the Notarization. Instead they advise to note "information posted elsewhere," then post the actual number in your notary journal for record.

I only record the information from Identification cards in my journal - never on the certificate.

Never reference the CDL number on the certificate, that information is just for your journal. If you are using a pad of Acknowledgements or Jurats purchased from National Notary, the back page (carboard) has a line by line explaination of what to put on that line and an example on how to complete the form. Good Luck with your career as Notary Public.

Thanks for all the answers. I appreciate everyone's time.
I didn't like the idea of putting the actual DL number on the certificate, but wasn't sure how to handle it. I used the 'information posted elsewhere' statement.
Also, I am using a pad of Acknowledgements, but not from National Notary (I don't remember who I purchased them through), but there was no example included.
Thanks again to everyone.
