Calif. mandatory after JULY 1,2005
Hope I'm not bugging yall here in my endeavor to get my notary comission. Yall here over all are the most informative I'v found on the net--------------
Thanks MAGGIE MAE, and JON for your promp responce , I needed that [smile]
MAGGIE MAE the exact date I took my notary class and exam was APRIL 14th ,2005 I received my pass letter from CPS [ exam proctors] 11 days later APRIL 25,2005. As I understood my CPS passing exam was good for a year so busy working I did not get my live scan done until later MAY 31,2005 , thus far I have not received my commission pack yet . My fingers are crossed that I receive my commission pack before JULY 1,2005.-- If Im correct the 30 days you was talking about is I would have 30 days after I get my commission pack to file my bond and take the oath of office with the county clerk , other wise I would have to start all over again
JON I checked with the SOS [ sec. of the state] this morning and U hit the nail on the head in stating " You have 30 days from the ISSUE date of your commission to file bond and take the oath of office. There is NO EXTENSION for any reason whatsoever. If you fail to complete the above within 30 days, you must start the process all over.If you took the exam, and are required to take the approved class, you DO NOT have to re-take the exam" .
The SOS said my commission is in the process but gave no appox. date I would receive it . If I do not receive it by JULY 1,2005 , the state say I Must take an approved class prior to getting my comission .As you said Unfortunately, many of the class providers did not understand the law and gave wrong info to their students. On the phone I spoke with a some what reputable vendor who said he was reputable. He said the original date of the SOS change was JAN. 1,2005 but in SEPT. 2004 the law was changed to JULY 1,2005 his thinking was that persons that who took a course and passed the exam prior to JULY 1,2005 was exempt from the mandatory 6 hour education, Well he was wrong .
Fingers crossed I get my comission before JULY 1, 2005 .

You may not have the total 30 days with the mail and all. I just had mine renewed. You can ask the SOS what day they are up today as far a processing them. I contacted a company for my bond and insurance for both (not NNA) and they had it back to me in two days. Went to the approved on the list stamp maker for my area, had my stamps (you can get more than one at that time, different sizes) received it the next day. Then drove over to the County Clerks office filed it in person. Doing it this way you may be able to save time and meet the dead line. You don't have to have your stamp to file the papers at the County Clerks office. From the time I took my test till I recorded it at the Clerks Office was 7 weeks. Good Luck
