Calif. new Notary law After July 1, 2005

In California all notary commissions issued on or after "JULY 1st 2005 ", must have compleated a 6-hour training course and have a proof of completion from a SOS approved vendor [school] before they can get their comission.

In mid JUNE ,2005 I took a course with a small private class of 8 and passed the CPS State exam given right after the course at the same location. The class was not SOS approved because none was required. The class was excellant all 8 of us passed. The small class teacher is presently ill and closing shop for a while and she is unable to apply for a SOS approval thus I will not be able to get a proof of completion from them .

My question is will I have to take another course ? I did passed the exam and would be getting my comission after JULY 1,2005. Will the SOS accept my prior training in June 2005 , if not , why not ?

Call the Notary Division of the SOS and ask. They'll know.

First off, how could you take a class in mid-June when it's only June 7?

Second, the notary handbook you should have received has the answer you are looking for, in the common questions and answers section.

Yes, you will need to re-take an approved class. If you took the class in June, why didn't just use one of the approved vendors to start? They have had approved vendors since the last week of May.

Call the SOS. If you took the test with the CPSS and passed you may get your commission and can finish everything before the July 1, dead line.
