Contract for sale of Real estate

A co-worker wants me to be a witness notary. My question is does he really need it to be notarized. I did inform him if he wanted me to notarized he would have to let me know what kind of notarization did he want. Was I correct to say that? Please give me some advice?
Thanks in advance.

Usually contracts do not need to be notarized, a witness maybe, but not necessarily a notary. You were absolutely correct in telling him to specify the type of notarization he wanted. That's what lawyers are for..

Just be certain it what you are notarizing does not violate the laws of your state; be certain to use the correct notarial wording; and as for whether it needs to be notarized, this is not for you to say. That falls under "Do not give legal advice." Your only concern is not to violate the notarial laws of your state.
